Seeking fun, friendly, welcoming, family-oriented church

My family is looking for a church/place of worship to start attending regularly in the Omaha area. We are looking for a non-denominational place with young families and lots of activities to involve not only ourselves, but hopefully our 8 month old son too. We would love to find a place that shares our morals and values to reinforce them in our son as he gets older and to develop relationships with people whom we share common ideas with. I have researched churches in this area before and it seems that they get too tied up in the political sides of issues that should not be part of church at all and I am hoping to find a place that practices and embraces tolerance for all people because I would like nothing more than to start my son's spiritual life out right with people who support.

I personally do not attend this church. However, I have only good things to say about Bellevue Christian Center. Lots of events, daycare/school, large parking lot, numerous members. It is in Bellevue. I am neighbors with a pastor/minister there. Any church that doesn't sell me their religion I am ok with. (I am more into telling people about god then telling them about my religion.) The only reason i do not attend the church is because I am a Lutheran and have been attending the same church since birth. I have attended the church as a child and have attended events there. Good luck in finding a church home! (You'll know the perfect one for your family once you walk through the doors!)

I belong to St. Thomas Lutheran Church on 180th and Q Street and although it is a Lutheran church, you have just described my church to a "t"! It is a wonderful, loving home for sinners and Pastor David and Pastor Ellen are wonderful teachers. We have four services available for worship, Saturday night 5pm and Sunday morning 9am are Contemporary and Sunday 8am and 11am are Traditional services with communion at each service.

St. Thomas is a very fast growing congregation with a lot of young families and yet we still have the older part of our congregation there for knowledge and traditional values. We have lots of kids programming and a senior high youth group.

Even though we are not non-denominational I would encourage you to come worship at St. Thomas and see what we are about.

Blessings!

Me and my family have just recently started going to church at Brookside. (off of 120th and L) We love it there. They have great children programs and seem to very organized. You should definitely give it a try!
Good luck, Shannon

Grace Community church is a wonderful place and a very young congregation. My children love going to Sunday school and the pastors there are wonderful. The address is 144th and three blocks north of Maple Street. Church services are at 9:00 a.m. and 10:30a.m. I believe there is a Friendship Sunday either this SUnday or next and there will be only one service at 10. Check them out, it is really a nice nice place to be.

Jackie,

We belong to WellsSpring in Papillion and it is a WONDERFUL church. Pastor Dan and his family started this church about 6 weeks ago. He was with Trinity and due to political stuff going on there he decided ( with the help of many of us who followed him) to start his own church. There are many young families and we do many activities together such as picnics, get togethers with small groups, etc. We are around 100 members strong now and hope to grow. Currently we have service at the American Legion off 84th and Lincoln. It is a small group and everyone is so friendly, it is like one big family. I can't tell you how happy I am to finally find a church to really belong to..not to just go and say I went to church that day. I can give you more information on it if you would like. I know Papillion may be out of your way, but you are more than welcome to come and check it out for yourself.
Dan and his wife have 5 children of their own and they are such great people. Currently we do not have a Sunday School Program set up, but it is something that has been talked about, like I said, everything is still pretty new. We have Bible Study from 9 to 10 and then church service from 10 to 11. I also really enjoy the readings Pastor Dan does as he relates them to real life, not just reading from the Bible. I have met so many wonderful people and look forward to meeting new members. At Trinity the place was so large no one really talked much to each other and it seemed the place had it's little "clicks". Wells Spring is nothing like that..everyone talks to everyone and welcomes you with open arms. We have to set up our chairs when we come and help put them away when we are finished, it is kind of funny...but this is what we have to do until we grow and can find/afford an actual church. I truely think you would love this place once you got to know everyone in it.

I have a son who will be 9 months on the 3rd. He is my first and it has been an adventure with so many ups and downs. From being so tired because he don't sleep through the night to having him give mommy his first kiss last week. Sloppy, open mouth kiss...but the first time he did that it just melted me.
I am 35 years old and he is my first. I have two step children who are 5 and 7. We have them one day a week and every other weekend.

If you would like more information on the church please e-mail me at [email protected]. I can refer you to Paster Dan if you would like. Like I've said before they are wonderful people and there is no "political" crap to deal with. :) If nothing else come check it out one week and see what you think. Let me know and I'd be more than happy to meet you there.

Take Care,

Tammy

It all depends on what kind of church you are looking for and what area of town you are in. If you are in the north area, I would say Eagle's Nest. They are very alive for God! If the south area, I would say, my church, Bellevue Christian Center. If on the west side, then I would say Trinity. Then in the Millard area you have Lord of Hosts. These are all good churches. I believe they would all fit the bill.

Hi Jackie! I have been going to the Vineyard at 133rd and I St. in Omaha for about 4 years and I love it. After being apart of a church that is very structured and maybe a little bit tied up in the political stuff, the Vineyard is a very free church. They just go with the flow...the service starts at 10:00 on Sunday mornings. You should check it out. I'm pretty involved with the nursery..they have a good bunch of kids around that age.
