I am on a limited budget and money is really tight, but i do not qualify for legal aid, go figure. i kicked my husband out 18 months ago and he moved back to the west coast. I want to file for divorce but haven't because i can't afford a lawyer. Everyone i talk to tells me not to try to file on my own because i wont get the results that i want. We have a 4 yr old son. My soon-to-be-ex (D) has not seen him since he left and he has only talked to him on the phone 3 or 4 times for less than 5 minutes each. (D) has been divorced at least 2 other times that i am aware of and has at least 5 other children (much of which i didn't know going into the marriage) He relinquished his parentaly rights on most of the kids and has no contact with any of them. i want to ensure he has no parental rights to our son either. I know i won't get more than a penny or two out of him in child support cuz he barely pays any on the arrearages that he owes now. Has anyone out there been through a similar situation? Does anyone know of any local lawyers that use a sliding fee scale or that are very affordable?
