My hubby has announced he thinks it may be time for us to replace our roof. We are dreading this, knowing it will probably cost a LOT. I was just wondering if any fellow mamas out there know of a really honest, reasonably priced roofer they would recommend?

I found the best way was to have several companies quote for the roof job. They do it for free. Just make sure that you know exactly what roof shingles and other materials they are using so that you can make good comparisons. I also started my subscription to ConsumerReports.org at that time so that I could see their evaluations and recommendations on roof shingles and vinyl siding. Another good piece of information is the ice dam sheeting - do they put a 3' layer under the shingles or 6' layer? (This extends up from the eaves toward the roof peak) We completely changed the look of our house about 5 years ago - roof, siding, gutters, deck, garage door, patio door, light fixtures.
We found that there was a big difference in price quotes and we had to do our homework to find the right one for us. I stay at home with our kids so I kind of took that on as my job and saw companies during the day so that my hubby and I could go over the quotes together. One company flatly refused to come out if my hubby wasn't going to be there with me. We didn't bother with them. My hubby is the type to sign up with the first person he talks to and that is why I dealt with the salepeople.
This is a big investment to keep your home protected. It is very worth the time you put in up front to be sure that you are completely satified with the company, price, materials, and outcome.

My son owns a company that does roofing. It is called Chadams Professional Services. The phone number is 248-684-5753. He gives free quotes and you can then do comparison shopping. He has done our roof, our neighbor's roof and several others. He stands behind his work and does an excellent job.
