Our daughter is 15 and CAN'T wait to get behind the wheel of the car. One of my biggest fears is now here...
I am looking for references for GOOD, QUALITY Driving Schools. A private school works great for me as long as she gets good thorough instruction. We are not interested in teaching ourselves or Driver Ed in a Box. We are looking for detailed instruction with private drive time to help her as much as possible before she hits the road on her on. We don't want her starting out driving our cars, we prefer her to drive one from a driving school (or rental if needed) until she has reached a level of training that it would be ok. She will be inheriting my car for her 16th birthday/when she gets her license.
I am looking for a private school, teacher or a good school where we can purchase extra drive time hours for her to practice. Can you have private purchased drive time before you take the course?
We meet all the requirements but I need to find a schedule that will fit with my active cheerleader that is busy every afternoon.
Our priority is Quality vs costs.
Bless your heart!!
OK, most schools offer a package with the minimum requirements, classroom time and drive time. I have no idea if you can purchase additional drive time. However, I would ask when purchasing the package. Most schools have late hours and Saturday classes to accomodate these active children. My last two went All American Driving School in Garland. I'm pretty sure that's not convenient to you; but, they might have one in the Plano/Allen area. Ask where her friends' parents sent their kiddos. Unfortunately, most driving schools are the same. Now, you can not do drive time until you have your learner's permit. So, she has to do the class time first. Although, the learner's permit used to be given within a few days of beginning class. I understand there have been some significant changes to the young driver's licensing process since my 19 year old went through. I would suggest calling a driving school (doesn't matter which one) and just asking questions to get a basic understanding of what's what. Then you can, perhaps, get more specific on your needs.
Good luck, Mom!! This was the absolute hardest thing for me ever -- and, I did it THREE times!

Hi T F -
I think there is a school on Legacy around either Independence or Coit (because I seem to ALWAYS be stuck behind them while speeding to get somewhere while on Legacy).
This school I'm thinking of seems to have small to mid size SUVs as their Student Driver cars, which I think is good - you know, learn to drive (and parallel park) in a bigger car, so transitioning to a smaller one is easy. And, their cars seem to be in good repair. Also, I don't remember ever seeing more than 1 student in the car at a time, so although "observation" is probably a requirement, you get one-on-one driving experience.
I will ask around to some of my neighbors with older kids and let you know...
