safest weight loss

Hi! I need to lose a lot of weight as safely and quickly as possible. I have very personal reasons for this, but it is something I need to do in the next 3-4 months. So I have a time limit too. I would like to lose at least 2 pounds a week. I know that quicker weight loss is supposed to not be safe, but is there anything out there that can take off weight maybe just a bit quicker than that (while still maintaining muscle) and so that when you actually go back to eating normally (like the body for life Bill Phillips way or just really good, careful nutrition) you don't gain back weight, I am talking maintaining at just under 2000 calories a day, not eating way over and not eating junk food, baking etc. I want this to be a way of life, but I need to get about 40 pounds off in the next 3 or so months, can't take much longer than that. Sorry I can't go into lots of details about why, it is just something I need to do...any ideas out there??!!

a couple things you could try: Lean Cuisine diet. You eat a normal breakfast like cereal, yogurt or what ever you eat then eat a lean cuisine for lunch and dinner. They only have around 300 to 400 calories in a meal so for lunch and dinner that's like around 800 calories then add in your breakfast and maybe a healthy snack or two and your well under the 2000 calorie a day limit. It can get a little old but there are lots and lots of different lean cuisines to choose from. You could also do the no card. That diet works really, really well. Good luck.

Don't forget to exercise. It will help maintain muscle while you are losing the weight, and afterwards, it will help keep the weight off. A couple warnings: One, muscle weighs more than fat, so if you start dieting and exercising at the same time, you might not lose as much as you might expect at the very beginning. Two, if there are health reasons why you need to lose this weight, talk to your doctor before you begin exercising. Finally (slightly off-topic), don't take anything to clean your colon out -- all those products do is cause you to lose water and important nutrients. Good luck!

Stacey:

I lost 20 lbs in a couple months on Isagenex. I would be happy to help you learn more. I just wanted to lose some weight for the holidays and a trip back to Wisconsin (friends & family).

You can email me at [email protected] if you want.

This works well for me, but I do have to warn you, you are going to need to be able to exert some self-control. Start off the morning with a cup of tea, whole grain cereal, and some sort of fruit, like an apple, pear, or orange. You CAN eat bananas, but they tend to fill you up more and will keep you from being hungry for lunch....which if you push back lunch might throw a kink in your eating schedule. (Try eating half a banana with meals or in between....apples are best in my opinion) For lunch, eat a well balanced meal, sandwiches, pasta....any number of things are okay....make this your main meal of the day. Don't overindulge, but it's okay to have pasta or a baked potato. Then for dinner, eat another bowl of cereal. If you get hungry in the evening before bedtime, eat another piece of fruit, again-apple, pear, orange....at this point NO bananas, and things like watermelons have a high water content, which can be okay, but personally for me, I find they don't help with weight loss.

Throughout the day, drink plenty of tea, which is a natural diarrhetic, and will help to keep your body regular and flush your system out (no, not uncontrollably...more comfortably and in a totally healthy manner), while providing all sorts of antioxidants. Both green and black teas are good for you. Coffee is okay too. Drink plenty of water, which will help flush your system, as well as help you from feeling hungry. Also, replace ALL sodas....completely cut them out....even the diet ones. Replace them with juice. Lots of people criticize the high sugar content of juices, HOWEVER, you get your fruit servings which ARE important, and the type of sugar boost you get is natural and long lasting. Even calorie counting, I find that if I exceed my daily allotment of calories, if it's due to juice intake, it doesn't react negatively with me, and in fact, still aids weight loss.

Plus, the natural sugar boost will aide you in the necessary exercise you WILL need to do. I don't go the gym or run...I walk....EVERYWHERE. I walk my kids the mile school, walk the additional 1/2 mile into town. After dinner, take a stroll around the neighborhood. This will maintain muscle and tone, while not building, and burn fat. It might take a couple of days to get into the swing of things, but you will be surprised at how quickly the weight will start coming off. Even if you don't see improvement on the scale right away, you WILL notice it when looking in the mirror, and then the scale will follow quickly.

Best of luck!

If you want a meal plan made for your, EDiets works great for that. I have efectively used that site a couple of times and if I stick to my meal plan I always lose the 2 pounds a week. You can also join challenge groups, if you do ED I recommend the Shinning Stars. Those ladies are awesome. on the meal plans, you get to pick from a list of them and the way you want your meals to be, already prepared ones like lean cuisine, or from ones you make at home. It also gives you your snacks for the day and what you need to add to your meal for the lean cuisine's to have the correct calorie count. I felt like I was eating TONS! But eat everything on the plan and you will lose the weight. One of the biggest mistakes I make is not eating enough calories and then my body goes into a shock and it takes longer to lose the weight. So don't do that to yourself. I've lost 15 lb in a month before becuase my body just sighed with relief I think that it was getting good balanced nutrition. EDiets does cost a little each month, not much but a little.
If you don't have funds, try Sparkspeople. You can also join teams and challenges. And get support buddies just like on ED. And you can track your meals. I think you can have it help build you a meal plan as well. I haven't used that feature yet so I am not sure how it works. but it is the website I am using now. Between the 2 sites last year I lost 36 pounds. I lost all of that in about 4 months.
I have to track my calorie intake or I don't eat enough, or I eat too much in a day. It helps too if I am going out to eat I check out the restraunt before going and predetermine from the online menu what I will order so that I don't even pull out the menu to tempt fate. :) It helps me stay on plan even if lunch is running to a fast food joint, I've done my calorie count before going and know what I am getting.
FitDay is also a great site but I like Sparks because the format is closer to the ED one that I was using before, and many of my old challenge buddies are on Sparks.
I like that the site is set up to track calories for me instead of me trying to add it up--I'm not good at that but I am pretty good about getting on and tracking what I am eating for the day. I make the plan up for the week and then get on and verify each day that I have stayed on plan.
Good luck.

Try signing up for the Weight Watchers program. They will let you know how much you can eat in a day to lose 2 pounds a week. You can then add exercise onto that to lose a little extra. They will also tell you losing more than 2 pounds per week is not safe, but I think as long as you are eating healthy and exercising you will be okay. Go to weightwatchers.com and check it out. They give you a number of points for every food and you log everything you eat. It makes it very easy. They will also monitor your progress. Good luck!

Weight Watchers!!!!! After my child turned 18 months old I finally joined with them and lost all the weight I hated. Weight Watchers is so simple and yet you can easily watch the weight go away safely and quickly. My parents joined and later convinced me and my sister. WE ALL LOVE THEIR PROGRAM. My mom and I are lifetime members now and will never go back to our old ways. It's great and it works.

Hi Stacey - losing weight can be a real challenge. I know from personal experience. I lost a lot of weight with help from Metabolic Research. They have an office in aurora. If you follow the program you will lose 3 pounds a week guaranteed. It is basically "lean and green" but works with your body to maintain your blood sugar levels. I showed the menu to my doctor and she said it is one of the healthiest programs she has seen and is now recommending it to patients.

The program is designed is help you lose bodyfat and maintain muscle mass.

It takes some discipline but the weight loss is very motivating.

http://www.emetabolic.com/

My basic program was basically eggs cottage cheese etc with lite toast and 70 cal protein drink at breakfast. protein drink for snack. BIG salad with 4oz lean meat, fruit and protein drink at lunch. Protein drink for afternoon snack. Dinner is BIG salad with 4oz lean meat with small carb and protein drink. There are a lot of different exchanges to choose from to vary the menu and they provide lots of recipes. I was never hungry.

Go for whole grain foods and lots of veggies. They fill you up for longer without adding a lot of calories. A bit of protein with a meal can also do that. Basically, the best bet is a good, balanced diet (eating habit) that you can stick to even after the weight is gone.

Also add exercise to the routine. I lost about 3-4 pounds a week by modifying my diet and daily exercise. I would do a cardio exercise for about 30 min (start at 15 or 20 if your not used to it). It should be in the 'moderate' range, where your heartrate is about 60% of maximum (220-age give a rough approximation of maximum) and then start adding anaerobic bursts where you increase the intensity to a high level for 30 seconds to one minute (it should be high enough that you can only maintain it for that short amount of time) then allow your self to recover at a lower pace before continuing with your workout (but don't stop altogether after the burst, it's not good for your circulation and kind of defeats the purpose.) What this does is force your body to use the sugar stored in your muscles as it can't burn fat in the anaerobic period and your body will then replace that sugar and create a bigger store, meaning less calories are being stored as fat. Do this 3-4 times a week. Also do resistance training (weights, exercise with the band, yoga, pilates, etc) 2-3 times a week. Always give your muscles a day to recover in between so don't work the same muscle group 2 days in a row. What you'll be doing is training your body to use more calories throughout the day, so it has to go to the fat stores. It also makes maintaining easier, as long as you keep the good eating and exercise habits (although you can drop the intensity of both a bit after you hit your goal).

Hi Stacey!

Check out The Raw Food Detox Diet- not only with you easily shed the weight, but you will be getting healthier also. Natalia Rose is the author. I checked it out at the library, but you could find it at amazon or go www.detoxtheworld.com

Your on the right track by eating better and making it a lifestyle. Most people that loss wight can't go back to eaithing what they consider normal, that is what got them there in the first place.

loosing wight is honestly about intake and activity. But you must do both in order for weight to come off quickly. 70% food choice 30% activity. Find someone that can help you with motivation, someone you can talk to, someone who will hold you accountable.

And lastly, you obviously have a personal reason that spark your your desire to loose the weight. Keep that thought in the front of your mind everytime you want to cheat with food, or skip a work out. remember your motiavation all the time and make it very personal.

My mom was losing about 2-5 pounds per week by simply eating healthy food and exercising 1 hour per day. Don't eat anything with High Fructose Corn Syrup or hydrogenated oils because those are VERY unhealthy for you.

The healthiest thing for your body is to workout and eat great. No pill or diet that limits what you eat or by taking a pill is going to be healthy for you for the rest of your life.

Whatever your reasons are, just be healthy about how you lose weight.

I started working out at the Y 3 times a week. About 20 minutes on the treadmill getting the heart rate up to 65% (there's a chart & heart rate monitor on the treadmill) which is the fat-burning rate. Then 5 minutes on either the rowing machine, or the bicycle or 5 on each. Then about 45 minutes lifting weights using the machines. Some legs, some abs, some arms. I lost about 10 lbs a month for 6 months (I couldn't afford new clothes so often so I had to slow down). I didn't cut my calories (about 2000 a day) but I did re-arrange when I took them in. Light, high protein breakfast. Small snack mid-morning (like a yogurt or some carrots or an apple). Light lunch - more carby than the breakfast but still more protein. Small snack mid-afternoon (nuts or something high protein to keep me going) and then regualr dinner. Ok to have about half a serving of a surgary thing with dinner twice a week.

What I found when I stopped working out was that it was pretty easy to maintain the weight I lost by continuing to be active (going for walks) and continuing to spread out the calories through the day.

I've recently started working out again and I'm again experiencing 2-5 lbs a week weight loss.

Do the Weigh Down by Gwen Shamblin. It teaches you how to listen to your body when you are hungry and when you are not. And there were weeks that I lost 5 pounds or more. It is, very healthy, and if you can't exercise you can still loose the weight.

A gym and a personal trainer are ideal right? but who has time for that? ;-}. I belong to a website called sparkpeople.com if you are looking to do it on your own. It's a great website with exercise programs, menus, and calorie watching, etc. The hard thing is sticking to it! Good luck

Hi Stacey. I've always done Weight Watchers when I've needed to lose weight (after baby, etc.) I could be a spokesperson for them because I believe in it so much. If you really follow the plan and exercise you can lose two pounds a week without feeling sick. And it teaches you how to eat well so you keep the weight off. I do the online version because I don't want to go to meetings. It's pretty affordable - I think it's about $30 to join and $16 a month thereafter. It's really easy to follow too. Feel free to send me a message if you have any questions. Good luck! I know how hard it can be!
