I am looking for a great Preschool for my 2.5 year old son. He is going to daycare at a great in-home daycare but he is bored and not challenged now that he is there are only 3 kids and an infant. He loves art projects, reading, playing outside or inside with toys, he just needs something more challenging and academic. He is potty trained but wears a pullup at night only. We are on the waiting list for the preschool at the DMV on Broadway...but we do not know when we will be called. Looking for suggestions of other great preschools that are not $1,000 a month for an 8-5 schedule.
i hear that the preschool at fremont presbyterian in riverpark is fabulous. however, you need to get on the waiting list asap. and, the good part, it's not supposed to be expensive.
A popular preschool in midtown, that I actually used to teach at is Hand In Hand CDC on 16th and N St. They take children between ages 2 and 5, have awesome teachers that have been there forever, and have a great philosophy. Downside, there's a waiting list. Sometimes during the spring/summer the older kids are moving on to kindergarten, so it's easier to get in.
Give them a call, take a tour. Linnea is the owner, Shelly the Director and 4's teacher, everyone is very friendly. I'm not sure of what the tuition is lately.

We were really happy with Busy Bee Nursery School at P and 27th. Ms. Nancy is great and my son really loved it there. He went to Busy Bee from 3 to 5 years old. I cannot recommended it enough. Having also tried at-home daycare and Montessori, in my opinion, Busy Bee is the best.
I work in the midtown area and sent my daughter to busy bee preschool and she really loved it. She is almost 10 now but spent 2 1/2 years there before kindergarten.
We love The Lighthouse (on SMUD's campus). It's not cheap though. We pay $950 a month now for out son (2.5 year old). it goes down though as they get older.
The Pond (toddler class) goes through 3 AND potty trained (he and several others are trained/training now) then on to pre-school. The Pond is like pre-preschool... an organized day, circle time, art projects, music etc., and more academic stuff for the ones who are interested. Our son knows all of his letters and their sounds, numbers 1-15, days of the week etc... but different kids are at different places depending on what they are into.
We really have loved The Lighthouse because all the staff in every class make an effort to know all the children at the school. Our son feels very loved there, he still likes to make regular visits to his old teachers in the infant room. It's all the love of an in home, but all the things that made us put him at a "school" as well. We know a couple of families with older children (2nd, 5th, and 7th grades) who all went to the Lighthouse. They are all very well mannered, well adjusted children and have excelled socially and academically.

I am doing the same thing but, I found a really good one over on T st called Tiny Tots. It is in the Coloma recs building. I love it and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Also, you might want to look in to Fremont Presbytarian on Hst I am not sure if that is the kind of exposure that you would like for your children but, they are wonderful with them. We just enrolled our daughter at Little Blossoms Montessori School on South Land Park and we love it. They have a good schedule with a mix of learning activities like arts and crafts, songs, story time and free play out side. They also have great learning toys. Most of the kids come from good homes where both parents are professionals so it's a good group of kids. The atmosphere is very warm and cozy and the teachers are friendly. It is defintiely under $1000 a month so I think it is worth looking into. The director's name is Sue and the number to call is 399-5700.

Who ever wrote about Busy Bee daycare, id like everyone to know who read it that i reported busy bee for child abuse and neglect. They left year and a half year old daughter in soiled diapers all day, they put her shoes on her with rocks in the shoes. The rocks made her cry all day and no one bothered to check that they put her shoes on after she played without shaking them out. My daughters feet were almost bloody. There was garbage and bottle lids all over the playground. A couple times i walked in and saw that not one staff member was around with almost twenety kids on the yard. Several kids were chewing trash, chalk etc, including my daughter. Nancy was nice but shes never around. They are by far the worst day care i have ever seen. My daughter was there for 8 days. I wouldnt put my dog in that day care. PARENTS PLEASE BE AWARE!
