Party ideas for 5 yr Bday Party

My daughter is turning 5 and I was thinking of doing a party at the beach or park. Do you have any suggestions on games or other fun stuff to do?

Do you know of other inexpensive party locations? I live in W. St. Paul, so preferably not too far away. I know a lot of people won't want to drive too far.

As always, Thanks for your help!

What about having a sandcastle contest? Each child could create their own sandcastle with tools you provide. You can probably get those plastic beach toys at Dollar Tree. Another idea might be a modified beach volleyball game. Or maybe Dodge ball using a beach ball so that it won't hurt! Children that age also enjoy bubbles, and you might just have two or three of those large bubble wands for them to play with -- not like a competition, just for recreation. It sounds like a really fun time!

We live near Lake Johanna, and they have a nice beach and picnic area. Being new to the area, I'm not sure how far that is from you. It is located in southern Arden Hills on County Road E.
