Newly pregnant and sooooo nauseous. Please help!

Hello. I am 6 weeks pregnant with my second child and have such bad nausea and food aversions that I'm having trouble being at work and eating or drinking anything at all. Even water makes me feel sick. I am not throwing up at all, but feel on the verge at all times. Any remedies to help? I can't stomach many foods - especially ginger. Even the thought of crackers makes me feel ill so it's really hard to eat or drink at all or be productive at work. Please help!!!

Congrats on your pregnancy!!! Water and crackers made me so sick! Room temp, flat, sprite was recommended by my doctor. 1 tsp every 15 min to stay hydrated until you can tollerate more. Eat carbs! Beans, potato, pretzels, pasta, toast. All of these will help with the nausea but the best piece of advise is to snack all day. Don't go more than 2 hours without eating! The emptier your tummy is the more sick you will feel and the harder it is to eat. Eat small amounts but eat. When you wake up at night to pee, eat a handful of pretzels so you won't be so sick in the morning. Start taking your prenatals at night and if you cannot tolerate them ask your doctor which childrens vitamin you can take until you start feeling better.

First off, congradulations on your second pregnancy!! I just had my second baby 5 months ago (allready) and remember how sick and nauseated I felt...I lost 10 pounds because I couldn't stand anything...even water made me feel sick. I was ditto to your situation. Unfortantely, I was way more sick (on the verge) for 12 weeks. Nothing helped me and so I have no advice except to "hang in there" and wait until your second trimester. Being very sick is a sign of a healthy baby! I remember somedays I liked fresh lemons in ice cold water. Being at work can be hard...so rest when you can...even if it is 5 minutes in the bathroom! A second baby is soooo much joy and so much more love, it is just amazing...you'll see. Good luck

Oh, how I remember the nausea! Here are some ideas: eat early and often and don't let yourself get hungry, even in the middle of the night. Try drinking dandelion root tea. Sometimes our livers just get overwhelmed with all the hormones and a little bit of gently support can be really helpful. Warm water with lemon can also help. Vitamin B6, vitamin K and vitamin C can also help.

Some women get alot of help from acupuncture as well.

Hi- The "sea bands" worked for me. They are acupressure bands you can find at the drug store that are for motion sickness. Little elastic bands with a plastic disc to apply continuous pressure to the inside of your wrists. I found they work for awhile and then taking them off for a few hours was best. Then when I put them back on they seemed to help more. It's not a magic bullet but it really helped diminish that awful tummy feeling. Good luck and congratulations!

I can relate. I lost 10 plus pounds at the beginning of each pregnancy from the morning sickness. I tried the sea-bands. They helped a little, but what worked the 2nd time really well was sour candy. The thought of putting it in my mouth was repulsive, but it helped stop the waves and dry heaves. I have no idea why, but it does work. Also, plain potato chips I could usually keep down. Not real healthy, but at least it is something in your stomach. I didn't really chew them, more like let them dissolve in my mouth, but something about the salt was good. If it gets really bad your doctor can prescribe a medication for you. It is the same kind of drug they give to chemo patients to help prevent nausea. I got it prescribed but was too scared to take it. Although pyschologically I think it made me feel better since if I knew if it got really bad a could just take a pill. good luck.

My first pregnancy was just like what you are experiencing. What my doctor told me to do was to make sure my stomach NEVER got empty, ever. Before I even got out of bed in the morning, he said to eat a cracker (even if the thought of it made me want to throw up, which it did), and then lay there for a few minutes until it had a chance to settle into my stomach. Then every half our or so throughout the day, eat another cracker. Just a little bit so my stomach never got empty. Believe it or not, it helped. I still felt a little nauseous all the time, but I didn't actually throw up. The only times I threw up were when my stomach got empty. And then one day... I just suddenly felt great! Like someone had flipped a switch. I think that was in week 14.

Also, something else that helped was that my doctor switched my pre-natal vitamins to a type that had a little less iron and a little more B vitamins, and I began taking them at night instead of in the morning.

Zophran is the drug you'd want to take. My sister-in-law had awful nausea with all 4 of her pregnancies, and this drug was wonderful. Even better, it just went generic. It used to be like $7 a pill or something like that. Anyway, it's perfectly safe and really calms the nausea.

Sea-Bands really helped my nausea. You can pick them up at walmart, safeway and drug store. They work by providing acupressure to a point on the wrist. They helped me. Good luck.

I wasn't as sick as you are, but what helped for me was eating every two hours. I carried a little bag with almonds and raisins. Hope you can find something that will work!

Just wanted to say it is real and it could go away, go and come back and last...ice chips, preggy pops helped me a bit...rest, chamomile, fresh air, vomitting, I feel your pain.. was like that both pregnancies until the end..
ask doctor if they have any anti meds.

Kaisers website says b-6. There is something called B-Sublingual Complex that is liquid multi B vit and you put under your tounge and in 10 minutes or less your nausia can subside. This is my 4th preg and I wish I knew about this in the past. Like you water made me feel sick too like it was too hard on my tummy. Magicly, I have not felt sick my second trimester...knock on wood!

I totally empathize with you as I have been going through a similar thing. I think mine isn't quite as bad as yours, though. I've found, as with my first pregnancy, that sea-bands may help a little. This time I have been sucking on peppermints (which I usually am not that fond of) and also drinking a lot of water with lemon in it. Those are two small things that have seemed to help. It never totally goes away, but it lessons to the point that things are tolerable. Most foods are still hard though. My Dr recently said to take 25mg B6 along with 1/2 a unisom tablet every 6-8hrs if it is bad. I haven't taken that yet, as I feel that my nausea may be easing up now that I am 10weeks. First, congratulations.

Now, when I was pregnant(my last was almost 5 years ago) I had the same thing. What my doctor suggested and it really worked for me was to keep a glass of water and some graham crackers by my bed and to eat it BEFORE I even got out of the bed. She said that movement helps enhance the feeling of nausea but if I had got something in my stomach before I started moving around, it would help. Whether it really did or I made myself believe that it did, I don't know. I just know that my day started off better and I stopped feeling that way for the whole day.

the only thing that worked for me was putting a mint (light green or white) tic tac under my tounge or sucking on it. I am sorry you feel so bad. I know how you feel.

Try Prego Pops - they seem like just hard candy, but I think it helps to have something in your mouth. I found them at Motherhood Maternity (clothing store), but I believe they can be found at drugstores too. Hang in there!

Ask your doctor about vitamin B supplements. I always had severe all day nausea for the first trimester with all five of my pregnancies. My first obstetrician gave me shots of vit B and it made me feel normal for a few days. I always wondered if taking it orally and consistently would have helped. I did throw up a lot and also had that constant feeling that I could go over the edge any time I smelled something or saw something or thought of something that I normally would have loved to eat. Good luck..your body will adjust and it will be gone, but it does make it hard as only those of us who have experienced the same thing can really understand. I would have thought that by now the medical community would have found safe remedies...Nancy

Hi Tricia, Try eating anything with protien every two hours..some almonds, yogurt, or what every you can stand the thought of. The tinest amount can help keep up blood sugar and lessen nausea. You can also try B-natals you can get at the store which are suckers or logenzes. If you don't keep anything down for 24 hours you should call your doctor. Sometimes a dose of phenegren, or iv to get you hydrated can "reboot" your body if things get bad enough. Most of all, know that "this too will pass!" Debbie

You've got some good advice...but I wanted to add "Mommies Bliss" to your list of things to try! I used them...they are an all natural pill, after about 5 days of taking them I REALLY felt better. I also used the pressure point bands on my wrists. I was desparate and willing to try anything! Preggo pops I think are a mind game, but hey, if it makes you feel better than by all means! I know its tough...but EAT!!! The less you eat the sicker you will feel..choke it down...stay on top of the eating for 2 days and then it will get easier. And who cares about what is "healthy" right now...a doghnut and chocolate are better nutrition than "nothing" right now. Eat whatever you can possibly imagine stomaching : - ) I loved cheeze-its and ice cream. Congrats...and remember its all worth it in the end!

Hi. Have you talked to your doctor about this? There are safe anti-nausea medications that you can take, one of the best being Zofran. My friend just went through this and she ended up being diagnosed with hyper-emesis which is a severe form of morning sickness. I'm not saying you have this but if you do you need to get it diagnosed so your doctor can help you. Was the morning sickness really bad with the first child and maybe a little or a lot worse this time? With hyper-emesis with each pregnancy it gets worse, but you can get on medication and home IV therapy to keep your fluid levels up. There is also this wrist band you can wear that is supposed to help, I think you wear it on a pressure point on your wrist or something. So sorry you are so sick. Good luck! My friends nausea went away at about 5 months, if that's any consulation.
