I live near Mansfield(Kennedale area); has anyone used any businesses to setup up wireless network at home. I know BestBuy has their 'geeks' but wondered if anyone had good success with anyone other than them. BestBuy's geeks 'tried' to fix my computer when it caught a virus but the same virus attacked again after we paid them $250. Now my printer won't work so purchased a wireless printer for all computers in the house. Any suggestions would be appreciated! THANKS. I do have a wireless setup now (AT&T wireless router). Just want someone to setup wireless printer for all of the printers in the house.
So you do not have a wireless set up now???
But want one????
Well, you need to buy, a Wireless Router, like Linksys... for setting up a wireless system in your home and amongst all your computers.
Then you have to make sure all your computers are configured for it... for a "network."
You also need to get anti-virus software. Otherwise you WILL get viruses again. I assume you have a PC, not a MAC computer... by the way you describe it.
You also need to get an external hard-drive... to save/back-up your computer... in case it crashes or gets hit by viruses... so that you can save all of your important things on your computer. Regularly.
If you do not have tech experience or background... I would seriously hire someone to set it up and teach you about it.
Even a University type Computer Science major... would know how to do it.
For us, my Hubby does it because he is a computer tech/background.
A Wireless Printer... will NOT work... unless you have a Router... and all your computers are individually set up... for a 'network." It does not work, wireless-ly... on their own. You have to set up... the configuration on your computers, as such. And so that EACH computers printer set up.... point to that one printer... that ALL users will use... and where all their documents will be sent to.
all the best,
Susan
If you have an AT&T wireless router you should be able to contact them for help setting it up. I had to call for help when we went to the for DSL and I couldn't get my stuff set up and they were great and very friendly. If this is a true wireless router, then you shouldn't need a Linksys one to work with it. But if you do, get a Linksys. (Netgear doesn't work well)
A good free anti virus is AVG or go and buy Norton Internet security. For about 70 bucks you can get a disc that you can install in up two 3 computers. We've been using Norton since 2004 and have never had a virus in any computer and we have had 3 at one time for 3 yrs now!
Good luck
