My daughter has sensitive skin and mosquitos seem to love her. Anytime she is bit, the bite lasts for weeks and she is miserable for days. She got bit last night (no other kids did!) about 8 times and just keeps walking around the house crying. I've tried giving her hydrocortisone cream and putting aloe on it. Any better tips??
My 8 year old used to have mosquito bites swell up to about the size of a quarter. Ped recommended Benadyrl internally and externally (spray or gel). Seems to work for her.
my daughter is allergic to mosquito bites. her limbs actually swell up and gets red streaks. the doc has her on benadryl and cold compress.(being in heat or a warm bath after is the worst thing). sometimes we have to have steriods. try the benadryal and motrin (for pain)good luck!!
My daughter is allergic. Her bites swell up bigger than a quarter and are hot to the touch. We use hydrocortisone for the itching (which helps), but the thing that helps the bite disappear is deoderant. I saw this recommended on the internet. I usually scoff at "home remedies", but I was desperate, so I tried it. It really works! I use the stick kind and just put some on my finger and rub it on the bite. The sooner you get to the bite, the better it seems to work. Maybe the drying ingredient in the deoderant helps draw out the venom.
My daughter also seems to be the one the mosquitoes love. We have found that BiteMD (we prefer the original over the kid formula) helps with the itchiness along with oral benadryl. There is hope! I think she may be outgrowing this allergy as this summer is the first that we have not had to put her on steroids for a bite! Hope the same for you.
Vitamin B-12 is said to produce a smell from your body that the mosquito's don't like. I don't know what the dosage would be, but it might work. Worth a try.
Amanda,
They love my little boy too! And...leave my daughter alone, bug spray or not, go figure. :) A few weeks ago I put bug spray on both of my kids from the neck down while we were all outside. Again my daughter stayed bite free but my sons face and neck were covered in 18 bites! I felt horrible! We have him Benadryl and the bites looked better overnight. It's something I will keep in mind when this happens again.
Good luck and hang in there!
Cheryl
Benadryl & hydrocortisone cream.
Mosquitos don't like humans who take vitamins. Try a vitamin with alot of Vitamin B in it. They hate it!
When I got eat'n alive out camping I put Band-aid brand anti-itch gel on them and it says it will be an immediate cooling relief and it was. I put it on my boys and it seems to help but they don't cry about the pain like your does so use the other advice 1st to see if they will work better. Good luck.
This may sound crazy, but-Roll on antiperspirant/deodorant! I read the tip somewhere, and my daughter gets huge welts that last a long time from mosquitos, but when she gets bit now-she puts the deodorant on asap, and the bite and welt is all but gone in minutes. This works 90% of the time-there have only been a couple that did not respond. Good luck!
This sounds crazy, but put a fabric softener sheet in her pocket. Make sure some of it is exposed. It works everytime....and you don't have to spray chemicals on your baby....
Benadryal has always worked for us. May make her a little drowesy, but it will take away the itch. Good luck.
Here is a website to check out regarding the use of anti perspirant for bug bites...

Amanda,
If the deodorant doesn't work try making a paste of baking soda and water and put the paste on your daughter's bites. She will have to sit still for about 10 minutes, but the baking soda should take some of the pain and inflammation away.
I hope she is feeling better soon.

Get a big bottle of Listerine and a good spray bottle. Spray around where your daughter plays. It's supposed to be excellent against mosquitoes.
At Better Health/Whole Foods, there are topicals you can use. One is called SssstingStop. There's also Florasone to keep the itching down. Burt's Bees ointment in a little round green tin, is also good for topical use on bites.
We use a product called AfterBite. It's in a pen form and it smells like ammonia, which is prob. the primary ingredient. My kids ask for it when they get bitten.
Also, check out Snopes.com for the Listerine suggestion. It's a scam.
my oldest daughter is allergic to the things try baking soda paste as needed and benedryl (orally) should help alot
and to help avoid future bite avon has a great bugs spray that is safe for kids...i used it when i worked at a factory and got bite by HUGE mosquitoes....they stayed away
We use either Afterbite or BiteMD. Just pick it up anywhere, Cvs, meijer, etc.
I'd take her to an allergy specialist but it sounds like, when this happens, you should use benedryl. She may eventually need allergy shots. Benedryl comes in a cream or gel, and also pills but maybe there's a liquid for little ones. Not sure. Ask your doctor.
