Membrane Sweep

Hi Mamas
I am nearly 40 weeks gone.
At the doctors appointment today she said the neck of my womb was very soft plus 2 cm dilated and she performed a membrane sweep.

So looking for advice from those of you who experienced this.
Did it work and how long after did you go into labour?

All the best
Bernie k

They stripped my membrane at 38 weeks,, 39 weeks, 40, and 41. at 42 weeks they induced with pit. This was the same with both of my births.

Awww! I didn't have that done, but just wanted to say Good Luck and Congratulations! Looks like you'll be getting to meet your little one very soon!!!

I can't wait until I'm in your spot (about 15 weeks from now...)

Keep us posted... :)

I wouldn't recommend it. It opens the possibility of introducing infection into the uterus. Believe it or not, your body will go into labor when it is time. :) Those last few days of waiting are the hardest!! I always wanted to just hold that sweet baby who had been kicking me for months. Blessings!

I had this done and it didn't work. They induced me with pitosin and still 12 hours later my sweet miracle came. :) I was induced for medical reasons/risks.

Take care and blessings to you and your new sweet precious baby! :)

Didn't work for me....but I have heard for some it helps.

(I went 11 days over with my 1st and 9 days over with my 2nd)

My OB did it with my first without asking. I wasn't at 40, I was at 36 or 37. I carried for 2 more weeks after she did it. It isn't a guarentee in any way.

I dont think it works ever. I had three children they did it with all three, and it only made me uncomforable and excited and then nothing ever happened. One was induced, one came a week after that, and one 5 days.

I went into labor that night after he stripped the membrane.. Also, he told me to go home and have sex.. Combination of both worked for me..I was 39 weeks..

Had it done with all three, but it didn't do the trick for me.

I had it done twice and went into labor immediately on the table.

If you are ready, you will begin labor in the next 24 to 48 hours after having it done. If not, have them repeat it at your next visit. It worked for me for my last 2 pregnancies and I delivered both at 7 and 8 days past due date. Best wishes for a safe and memorable birth. Nurse Midwife Mom of 3

I went into labor around 24 hours after my membranes were swept.

With my 2nd I had mine swept at 10 am by 6 pm that night I was in labor--checked in at midnight @ 7.5 cm. I was 39 weeks and 5 days I think. But I should note I have a very irritable uterus so any contact gets me rolling. My OB clearly stated, it would only work if I was ready to go into labor, otherwise I'd just get crampy for a day or so :( It kind of made it difficult for me to tell if I was really in labor since I was lucky enough not to have as painful of a labor as my first. Good Luick

NO... membranes were stripped on friday in hope that I would go into labor.. nothing happened went back on MOnday and they sent me to the hospital to be induced.. had the baby Tuesday at noon.

My doctor stripped my membranes when I was 38 weeks... Then again when I was 39... Then again at 40... The day after my due date, I went in for an induction... after 10 hours of being on a pic. drip and stalling out at 3cm, I was sent home. I went into labor a couple days after that on my own.

I had this done with both my boys. With my 1st I went into labor next afternoon, had him that night. My 2nd son I woke up at midnight with contractions, hospital at 2am and had him that afternoon. Good luck!

Hi Bernie. I had a membrane sweep on a Tuesday and gave birth on Thursday. Good luck!
