Looking for start-up business advice

I'm building a website targeted at my local community. I hope to make some monay at this by attracting local businesses to advertise on my site & in my weekly emails. I do not plan on employing anyone, so my question is, do I need to form a business structure right away in order to do invoicing, and if so, is an LLC the way to go? Any other start-up advice for me? Thanks in advance.

You can just file as a sole propertier. Depending on how much income you may bring in yearly-you want to be sure you're setting aside enough for taxes, so checking with an accountant first is still a good idea.

My husband owns a home remodeling business and the best advice I can give you is to keep your overhead low. Which with an internet based company shouldn't be to hard-plus things like your computer will now be deductible expenses!

Good luck!

Hi, you may already have received your answer by now. But if not, in order to begin operating your business legally, you first have to register your name with the Sectretary of State. There is a $25.00 filing fee and you can print the forms online. They will send information back to you when you are ready to go. It will include information on publishing your intent to do business in the legal section of the local newspaper etc. An LLC (Limited Liability Company) protects your personal assets. You may be able to operate your business simply as a Sole Proprieter. You will have to decide. I can recommend a good bank that can help you with the paperwork should you decide to move forward. Let me know.
