I have two young daughters, ages 5-1/2 and 3-1/2. Can anyone recommend an age appropriate Bible for them?
Some sites to check out. There are a lot of good bibles these days for kids. Zondervan has a lot of good stuff.

We love the Jesus Story Bible (Every Story Whispers His Name) by Sally Loyd Jones. When your kids are a little older, we have also enjoyed The Children's Story Bible Catherine Vos. Hope you find something great!
I got my boys (now ages 8 and 6) the Honeyword Bible about 3 years ago. http://www.honeyword.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=11&Itemid=40 You can check it out here and maybe get it at a Family Christian Bookstore where they have coupons for 25% off. It is great about having sticker words to help them remember the scripture.
My kids love the Growing Reader's Phonics Bible from Zondervan. My oldest is 9 and my youngest is 4. They all liked it from a young age because it has a lot of fun rhyming...Dr Seuss-like. The older ones like that also but they enjoy that each story has a phonics sound it has in highlighted colors throughout the story. They have had fun as they became readers. I recommend it highly for a huge range of ages...it is fun for little ones but not babyish for the older ones.
Try Lifeway online before you head to the store...... www.lifewaystores.com
or the Zondervan website www.zondervan.com
I also highly recommend the bibles from Mary Beth H.'s answer. You may have to go to amazon or ebay for The Children's Bible but Lifeway has the other one!
Blessings!
My First Bible by Kenneth Taylor was given to my infant son by a good friend of mine. My daughters, age 2 and almost 5 at the time, loved it! And we all still love it. Short stories that tell the facts without being too detailed or making things sound scary. Cute illustrations.
If they can sit on your lap and listen to one book straight for an hour, the stories may be too short for them. However, it has worked out for us to read one of the short stories and review what happened and why (the passages have a couple little discussion questions.) Then they can walk away with one main point.
Hi Kim, are you looking for an actual Bible? or bible stories? My lil boy (5 1/2) loves to hear the stories out of his 'Beginner's Bible' Timeless children's stories. Illistrated by Kelly Pulley. It covers the bible. Pictures and the stories are short. Wal Mart actually has a good selection on Childrens bible stories. Try to find one with bible verses to go along with each story. Like 'Adventure Bible Storybook' by Catherine DeVries. As for an actual bible, i am not sure. i hope this helped alil tho. :) God Bless
I may be old fashioned but the BIBLE is the BIBLE. They should use and read the same one you do.No misunderstandings that way.
I have the Usborne Mini Bible. Lots of good stories.

Check with the local Christian book store or the Sunday school teacher. I got a regular bible at age 5. Of course I didn't really know how to read it so I would think a picture bible for the youngest, I still have my bible BTW.
This April, Augsburg Fortress published the Spark story bible. It's wonderful. My daughter is 3-1/2 and we love it. It reads like a storybook with pictures on every page. Very easy to understand and remember the story. We'll read pages at a time. Please check it out. There are a lot of samples you can read at the website.
It's designed for kids age 2-grade 2. Then there is the Spark bible for grades 3-6. Good luck.
My children love our Read and Learn Bible -- it's actually by Scholastic. They've got great pictures (on every page) and is worded in easy-to-understand words. My son is 3 (and 3/4 if you ask him :)) and my daughter is 6. She & I have been reading a few chapters every night for a while now, and she really seems to be understanding the stories & why things happened. I've even learned a couple things lately! =)
Good question!
When I taught preschool there was one called MY FIRST BIBLE. I used it ALL THE TIME.
There is also one by Max Lucado called HERMIE & FRIENDS BIBLE. There are subjects like obedience, trust, etc. that have age appropriate stories, discussion ?s, etc. I REALLY LIKE IT! This one is more for the 5 1/2 year old.
My daughter loves her "The Beginner's Bible" and loves the stories when they are read to her. good luck!
if you live in NE Ohio... there is a store called "Heaven on Earth" that is going out of business... everything is marked down and their last day (they think) is Jan. 9
you could get a bargain, maybe... it is on rt. 7 just south of the Southern Park Mall... just before you get to Adamas Lapidary
I would recommend the Read and Share Bible. It's a picture Bible, but it'd be a great start for the preschool age. Here's my full review on it: http://www.growingkidsministry.com/reviews/read-and-share-bible-giveaway/
Whatever you get, make sure it's going to be something easy to understand interesting for the kids. There's nothing wrong with a picture Bible for the younger ages. When they get to be 6-7, you could go for an easy-to-understand translation such as NIV, NIrV, ESV or something along those lines. Try to skip paraphrase Bibles (Message, Living Translation, etc)
Happy Hunting!
