leaky nipples???

I am 7 months pregnant and have started to notice that my nipples are leaking. It is minimal fluid that comes out and leaves marks on my shirt no larger then a pencil eraser. It doesnt leak through my bra..I noticed it for the first time while only wearing my pajama top and no bra. Is this normal???? Has anyone else experienced this?? Thanks for the help!!!

So normal! Buy disposable nursing pads, and take heart- it seems gross, but it's a GOOD thing! It's colostrum, which is going to give super important antibodies to your baby right after he is born.

At least now you know that you'll be able to make lots of milk for your baby! :)

Hi Lauren,
Yes, it's normal to leak colostrum in the 3rd trimester, some women do. Your body is already getting ready to feed your baby once he's born. It's fine to use cloth or disposable pads in your bra to absorb any leakage.

Oh yes, normal. I leaked at different times in all of my pregnancies, one as early as 3 months, but I think that was because I had breastfed before. As long as there is no pain or pus, it's fine.

I didn't have it with my first pregnancy, but this time I woke up from a nap during my second trimester with a very little puddle on the sheets! Only happened once.
I'm glad though, maybe it means good milk supply to follow:-) Good luck with rest of pregnancy and delivery!

This happened to me too. I only noticed it after it had leaked through onto my shirt and one of my first graders brought it to my attention :) It's totally normal and mine sropped after a few weeks. I just used nursing pads. Good luck!

Mine are too! Either it didn't happen with my first pregnancy, or I just didn't notice it. But I wish I could somehow give it to my toddler, who is sick right now! You can buy disposable nursing pads, or washable ones. The disposables tend to be thinner, in my experience, so if you're wearing thinner clothing, they will show less. But I also found the disposable ones to be scratchier and less comfortable to wear than the washable ones. Congrats on your upcoming arrival!

I about screamed when I saw this happened to me when I was about 6 monts pregnant. I felt like a girl who had gotten my period without anyone telling me it would happen(ever see that scene from the movie "My Girl"??)
It is completely normal, however I did have alot of leakage problems after birth--not sure though if my leakage was a normal level or not or if because I leaked colostrum i had more leakage problems.
Anyhow, Lansinoh makes a great nursing pad. Just wear one of those. I always found that the spots washed out and didn't leave stains, so no worries!
Good Luck!

I had it all the time too when i was pregnant. Id wake up with wet spots on my shirt the size of quarter at least. Id even have several of them some nights.

Totally normal. I had my first child last year and let me tell you, when my breast starting leaking at only five months prego I was way freaked out. My doctor brushed it off as no big deal so I did my own survey at the time. Its just your colostrum and for some women it can show up anytime during pregnancy and for others not until right when the baby is born. Personally I took it as a good sign that I would be successful at producing milk later on. Good luck, and have lots of fun.

Congrats on being pregnant. Yes, that happened to me, and my doctor told me it was completely normal. The fluid is your colostrum, which is the first few days of nutrition for your baby before your milk comes in. Hope this helps.

Lauren,

Don't worry this is completely normal. This happened to me with my first pregnancy. It's just your body adjusting to having to produce breastmilk. You're actually lucky that it's not alot. I leaked through my bras and shirts. I had to start wearing nursing bras. Congratulations on your new baby boy!

Yes, this is completely normal and it's just the beginning. Once your milk has come in you cannot be held responsible for the behavior of your breasts!

This is absolutely normal! It's just your body getting ready for breastfeeding. I had it in both my pregnancies from 6 months or so onwards. Just get breastpads to put inside your bra if you are worried about it leaking through, and if it is a problem at night, you can get a very soft bra for sleeping in to hold the pads in place.

Totally normal! If it starts to increase just buy some of the breast pads for breastfeeding. I had to do this when I was pregnant as it began to increase. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy.

Yes, this is perfectly normal. Its your bodys way of getting ready for breast feeding. You can use either disposable or the washable breast pads. Personally I prefer the disposable kind and my favorite brand is the Lansinoh one. You may as well test them out - once the baby is here you will be needing them for a while.....congratulations and good luck!

Yes, this is normal.

Yes, it is normal. Good luck with your new little boy that's due in June. xoxoxo Debbie

Yes, this is totally normal. You shouldn't leak alot so I wouldn't bother with wearing those uncomfortable breast pads yet. You'll have to do that enough after you have the baby and whenever you hear the baby cry, you'll have a let down episode all over your shirt, but you shouldn't beforehand. A little bit of milk(better known as colostrum)should come out any time you put pressure on your nipple. Congratulations!! I am having my first boy in July!!

It's normal. Most mom's I've known including myself started around 7-8 months some even earlier to have leaky nipples. I nursed and stopped around 9 months and they leaked for months and months after. Even now they occasionally leak. What we go through for our little ones :)
