Mama's who out there is seasoned in witty banter? (Witty banter is a slang term for having an amusing and intelligent conversation between one or more people), We love to watch Two and a half men and charlie and his mother are seasoned with the quick responses of witty banter. My husband is even better than they are and I would love to be able to hang. Is it something that your just good at or that you can learn?
My favorites are my hubby, Charlie, his mom & stewie. I just thought of George Jefferson & Archie Bunker from the Jefferson's & All in the family even though they had a little meaness to their witty banter.
I have to totally agree with you, I love that show...except ALL of the banter is great between the characters, that show has awesome writers. I am trying to think of a second one to add to the mix... Mike and Molly is pretty funny, Mollys mom and stoner sister have some pretty good lines.
Really, it is not something that can be taught ... it is a chemestry of the moment you either feel it or you dont. I was raised in a home of sarcasm and whitty banter thus, i am fairly well versed but not the best at it. i can not do it very well with someone i do not know.
I like some of the banter on CSI: Las Vegas ... it is my kind of banter inside jokes, gotta love them.
I do my best to 'hang' in my family...but man o' man my hubby and kids are really great!
My favorites in my life are: my oldest nephew and my youngest step-son, these guys are hilarious and VERY quick, we lovingly refer to them as "Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum" they are 16 and 15 and older/smarter than their years and they take turns being Tweedle Dum :) Then there is my hubby and then my BIL's lil' brother (I say lil' but he is almost 30!) and then there is my 5 year old son, he is WICKED smart and WAY FUNNY!
We are a family of 'banter-ers' and we all enjoy Sunday night dinners just so we can all rib each other...often!
~Last family dinner we were joking on French people (stepsons are 50% French) and I almost peed myself..."oh-la-la"! It was hilarious! "I am French, I pee on the sidewalk"...I know it sounds childish but it was great, my kids/nephews/family are some funny people! A dinner is always a success when someone chokes or has a drink come out their nose at my house!!
This article gives some good information, worth a look.
I'm VERY good at the Flirtation Banter ~~ Sadly that's no longer used (often lol) because I'm a married woman ;-) .... BUT boy does it work on the guys!!!! LOL
My Cousin and her boyfriend are the King and Queen of it!!!! hahaha
I like to think I'm good at it, but I don't have tv comedy writers putting my material together, so sometimes it doesnt come out as funny as it was in my head. It's a fine line bewteen witty and smart ass! lol I try. I love How I Met Your Mother. They have that good balance. They're so funny. Good writers. They coin phrases for 20 somethings now the way Friends did way back when.
My husband and his brother are hilarious, they even have their own language "accent" that they use. They are goof balls and me and my SIL just roll our eyes and praise each other for being able to stay married to such cuckoo guys.
Very late with my response, but I just had to share my love of Roger Sterling (John Slattery) on AMC's "Mad Men." The show's creator just published an entire book of his witty quips. He has the best lines on the show, hands down.
