I am looking for a school that has children's classes focusing strictly on judo. My son is five and I do not want him to learn kicking and punching. I have looked around, but all I can find are Tae Kwan Do schools or MMA. Please help me out.
Most of the strictly judo schools are in Ft. Worth, Dallas, Garland areas. My husband is a black belt in Judo but has kinda been out of it for a few years now. Our daughter recently asked to do Judo but the few places we found and looked into we were very disappointed in and it was going to be too long of a drive. Who knows, maybe something for hubby to start looking into (his own dojo). :) In the meantime, maybe someone will know more and I can get some info too.
The best Judo in the DFW area is Okuri Judo Club, www.okurijudo.com my family has been involved with this club for YEARS!!! and they are wonderful. they are in Hurst, they have classes for adults and children. they even have several nationally ranked players. (of all ages) the instructor is Kim Mesa (my sister in law) she is a 4 or 5th degree black belt and she is great with children! (she and my Bro in law have three boys) This club host the largest Judo tournament in Texas with top players from all over the states and internationally. you can't go wrong with this club, it is a very family oriented atmosphere where everyone is welcome. we used to drive an hour to get there and it was well worth it, we live closer now, but still about 30+ minutes. check them out on the web or FB.
