Information on Charter schools in Irving and Carrollton

Hello Fellow Moms,

Does anyone have experience or information on North Hills Prep School, Universal Academy and/or Vista Academy that meets in The North Church? We have been to information sessions and have put in her application but we have yet to talk to parents of actual students. Anything you share will be great information for us!!!

My sister has four kids at North Hills and loves it. It has been very impressive. My fifteen-year old niece has amazing teachers. I know of other people/professors from/assosiated with the University of Dallas that send kids to the North Hills. It's very academically challenging (at least in high school), and, from what I've heard, it sounds like they run the school very well and have some really dedicated, talented people on staff. Good luck!

Both of my stepkids went to North Hills...they didn't like it (my stepson convinced us to let him switch back to public school two weeks ago) - it is incredibly challenging and we got to the point where we were no longer looking for just A's to wanting A's or B's to finally just hoping the kids would pass. My kids are older and they had a pretty shaky educational start so they were lacking a good foundation but most of their tests were essay format. Physics, History, even Math classes...this was hard for mine - they have both moved back to public school and quite a few of their friends have as well.

That said, that was just for MY stepchildren..if your children are younger and are academically inclined, I HIGHLY recommend it. Their objective is to have a year of college credits by the time the child graduates from high school...if it had been me in high school, I would have loved it. The student-teacher ratios are incredible, my son's largest class was about 9 students. And most of the teachers are more than willing to help in any way they can: after school tutoring, communication regarding homework, etc...unfortunately, in the long run, it just wasn't enough for my kids....
