we are financially strapped. we both work. with gas and food prices going through the roof we are struggling. i can barely keep gas in both cars. and food thats another thing, i get food stamps but with 5 mouths to feed it doesnt go far. i make sure the kids and husband eat then i eat what ever is left. that is how bad it has gotten. also the clothing situation is bad also they are all wearing clothes to big or to small for them. the 8 year old can wear the 13 year olds handme downs but the baby girl who is 2 and 1/2 is wearing stuff a little snug for her. cant afford to spend alot of money on new things or even the thrift store anymore. we really need some help with bills, rent, food and clothing. anybody have any suggestions or can lead me in the right direction? please help. thank yo

You must be so stressed out. I know that Oak Mountain Ministries helps out with food and clothes. I don't know their phone number or details, but I bet you could find them in the phone book. Also, area churches frequently help out individuals and families. They usually don't give cash, though, due to some people who want cash for substance abuse, although I don't say that because I think that you would do that. I would start with your closest church or a church that a friend attends and tell them who you know that attends there and just be honest about your needs. I have a couple of bags of clothes I could give your daughter-- 3T stuff. Send me a message on Mamasource & let me know where in Birmingham you are located and I can meet you with some stuff--I live in the Northeast part of B'ham.

I am very sorry you are struggling. It is getting more and more difficult to stay ahead of the bills and we are getting tight also but our kids are often out-growing clothes and I could possibly help with those. Our kids do wear nice things. However, I don't quite understand the ages of your children and sex. Please respond to me and give me an age and whether it's a girl or boy. Also, what zoo do you work at (city/state)? We visit a local one often and maybe I could leave a package there for you. Our family will be out of town for the remainder of the week, but I will look for your response when we return. I really hope to hear from you soon. Also, what size do YOU wear?
If you're in Birmingham, AL - Check with Lakeside Baptist Church. They may have a food pantry that can help you with groceries each month. Also, check with South Highland Presby. Church for the same. If they say they don't have one, ask if they know a church that does .. it may be another church in their denomination, but I think it's them.
