You’re not a baby! You’re a woman reaching out to her “village” - asking for help is what strong people do. I always reference the flight attendant speech: “Put the oxygen mask on yourself before helping others.”
Songs:
“Fight Song” (Rachel Platten)
“This is Me” (Keala Settle, from “The Greatest Showman” or others who have performed it)
“I am Woman” (Helen Reddy - this is an oldie but a goodie, one of the early anthems of the women’s movement)
Those are the ones that come to me immediately. Hang in there!!
‘Don’t Stop Me Now’ by Queen does wonders for me, if I’m in more of a poppy, dancing mood, ‘Walking on Sunshine’ by Katrina & The Waves. ‘Brown Eyed Girl’ by Van Morrison will have you singing the chorus in no time. My daughter likes ‘Good as Hell’ by Lizzo, ‘Here Comes The Sun’ by The Beatles, and musicals like ‘Defying Gravity’ from Wicked and ‘Dancing Queen’ by Abba. I also like ‘Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now’ by Starship, ‘I’m a Believer’ by The Monkees is a good one too, and ‘Don’t Stop Believing’ by Journey is a must! If you like reggae, Bobby McFerrin’s ‘Don’t Worry, Be Happy’ is a must, as are some Bob Marley songs. ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’ by Cyndi Lauper is, well, fun! It depends what genre of music you like, there’s tons to choose from, as you can see!
I hope today is better for you, and you don’t need songs anymore, but we all do sometimes, so I’ll share mine. I have lots.
For hope in the face of something difficult, I love the song Beautiful City from Godspell, especially the Hunter Parrish version, which is slow, but lovely and moving.
Other songs that can get me out of a funk and are more upbeat, are Mr. Blue Sky by ELO, Lovely Day by Bill Withers, As by Stevie Wonder, and Your Smiling Face by James Taylor. I also love the theme song from Chico and the Man by Jose Feliciano.
Thank you for asking the question–I’ve had fun reading other people’s answers!
Van Morrison’s “Days Like This” has been running through my head recently, and it always makes me smile. Aretha Franklin’s Respect is a good power song too for me. Hope your day has gotten better!
Seeing this a bit late, but Don’t You Worry 'Bout A Thing (Stevie Wonder) is my pick me up of choice lately - kind of has some cha cha cha to it. Can’t help but put a smile on my face.
Hope you are having a better day today!
RN - Lovely Day has always been a go to for me too!
