Goof off will work but I can’t promise it won’t take the color off as well. Then again if you don’t try it is ruined anyway.
I don’t know of a magical solution. However, this summer the kids at the summer camp my son went to signed each other’s t shirts once a week. The signatures took 4 to 6 washings to disappear.
You could try treating it, washing it and rewashing til it’s faded but not drying. You can also try soaking it overnight/a few days. I got red wine out of my white shirt that way.
I smiled at the answer with the t-shirt markers that wanted to be kept! Of course they will disappear.
I had a last-ditch formula when my children were little. I’d use some non-chlorine, powdered bleach and some dishwasher (!) detergent, mixed up in the hottest water I could come up with. I’d let things soak from an hour to a day, and then wash as usual. Sometimes the marker came out. Sometimes the piece of clothing was ruined even more. But if the marker had ruined it anyway, it was always worth a try.
Spray n Wash, but not sure if its going to work on permanent.
I would try hairspray
Aerosol hairspray will work, it just takes awhile.
My mom never tried – permanent’s permanent and most removal methods will only fade the mark. She would get the marker, or a couple of colored permanent markers, and turn the mark into part of a design! She would make flowers or something to hide the mistaken mark and create a new pattern. She did the same if bleach spilled onto something it shouldn’t have (she loved to bleach whites and it sometimes splattered). She’d use markers or other things to cover up the spot with a design.
So you do not have to trash items with stains or marker on them – give them to the kids to decorate or decorate them yourself.
It is possible that you don’t get it out. But one thing to try that might work is hand sanitizing gel. Rub it into the cloth, rinse, repeat, and repeat until as much of the marker as is going to come out is out. Be aware, though, that the hand sanitizer may also remove color and designs from the cloth.
If it doesn’t come out, another option is to redecorate the t-shirt. Get a pack of colored sharpies, stretch the t-shirt over a piece of cardboard, and draw something fun over the marks. My mom refers to things like this as “opportunities to get creative.”
