So today i woke up and i had a BAD BAD BAD i mean, the worst headache i have EVER had behind my right eye. I have had it about 3 times this month. every time i get this i vomit really bad. So this morning when i was woken up from it, i automatically went to the bathroom and sat on the floor and eventually started vomiting. The pain i get frightens me and i cant even bare to do anything when this is happening. it usually lasts for 3 hours and the pain doesn't stop it just lightens. I still have a dull pain but its not chronic pain after 3 hours. And my question is, What should i do? Does anyone else experience this?
It sounds like a cluster headache. Look on webmd.
Go the the Doctor or ER... when you are having an episode.
It can mean many things....
But don't drive if having this 'headache' due to safety....
or simply call an Ambulance.
If it were me, I would not wait around or wait around for a Doctor appointment which can take time to even book an appointment.
all the best,
Susan
Please go see a doctor about this. It may be nothing to worry about (maybe you are becoming prone to migraines?) but on the other hand... stabbing pain behind your eye to the point that you throw up, is not something to ignore. Especially if it happens multiple times.
I get pretty severe pain behind my eyes but I have Graves Eye Disease.
You really should get it checked out just to make sure it's not something serious. Are you having visual problems too? Go see your doctor. I hope you feel better!
Could be a migrane. I recently found out that I have to have my gall bladder removed and I would get a horrible headache above the right eye and I would sometimes throw up. Pain meds don't help with this. Do you experience shoulder/back pain also?
That describes one of the versions of the migraines I get.
I get a couple of different versions... (triggered by sinuses, or tight muscles in my neck, or flat light... ironically I live in seattle right now, so have almost a constant sinus infection, and the light is always flat... so I get a lot of headaches). That one you just described is what happens when I have a sinus triggered migraine. For those ones, if I can catch it soon enough, pseudoephedrine hcl will relieve the sinus pressure, which takes the pressure off of the nerve that triggers that particular type migraine. If it gets to the throwing up point though, with any variety, nothing short of a shot will "fix" it. Since I can't afford the shots right now... I just camp out in the dark (SILENCE... my auditory stuff goes wacky with migraines), and wait for them to pass.
Ditto go to the doctor. Because while it COULD be migraines ... a) there are things you can do to stop them, and b) it could be something else entirely.
Sounds like a possible migraine. I got really bad headaches behind my eye (one or the other) and thought they were sinus headaches...nope they were migraine. With the location of your pain and the vomiting...that would be my guess.; HOWEVER
Get yourself checked out asap!!
They say if it is the worst headache EVER that the ER is a good place to go in case it is an aneurysm.
Lots of people have already mentioned the vomiting makes it sound like a migraine. The only thing is, migraines usually have some neurological symptoms that hit BEFORE the headache (my doctor explained that the neurological symptoms are from a constriction of blood flow and then it suddenly clears up and too much blood rushes in causing the pain).
Anyway. Migraine or not, sounds sinus related. If you haven't already, head to the pharmacy and get regular, old fashioned Sudafed. You'll have to ask the pharmacist for it because it's used in making Meth so they don't stock it on shelves anymore. That's the best decongestant I've found for sinus trouble. Don't get the "pe" variety you can find on the shelves, it doesn't work at all. That and a motrin until you feel better and then an daily allergy med would probably be wise.
Hope you feel better. Headaches are no fun at all.
Thea
I hope by the time you have received some of these posts that you will be at the ER or calling up your family doctor on this. Sounds like a migraine, but please take it serious. It could be even more than a migraine.
Have you checked into eye strain. I have had that happen (the vomit and headache behind eyes) and it turns out to be serious eye strain from staring at a computer extended hours and the posture you have while doing it. The muscles in your neck and shoulder may be pulling forward on some nerve. What I have done to relieve mine is to sit straight, point chin inward toward chest and then stare for about 10 second intervals downward as if looking on your nose. Massage between and above your eyelids, look to the right and left and see if that alleviates the pain. If it continues, maybe it is something more serious that should be checked. Just a thought!
I would look up cluster headache. I get these and they are awful. There are plenty of websites dedicated to this condition so I would check them out and see if your symptoms match up. Good luck and I hope you get it figured out really soon.
sounds like a migraine. Talk to your GP and they will give you some meds and refer you to a neurologist.
It could be a lot of things that have no serious underlying cause and can be treated symptomatically.
Or it could be something serious. My mother had a headache like the one you describe one morning when I was about sick. She went to the doctor and was sent home with medication. The pain came back and after a few days she finally went to the ER. A blood vessel had ruptured in her brain and she needed surgery. It was a very serious situation and she did suffer some very mild permanent brain damage (she lost her sense of smell and taste).
It's always hard to tell when to see a doctor for a headache, but anything that is unusually painful or lasts for a long time should warrant a trip to the doctor.
Good luck!
Sounds like a classic migraine. See a doctor and discuss your symptoms.I suffered for years, not knowing there was any hope. Now I take Imitrex in a nasal spray dosage. Works in about 15 minutes for me. It gave me my life back! They also have Maxalt which is a tablet that dissolves in your mouth. No fun throwing up a $20 pill!
I don't want to scare you, but I would suggest getting an MRI on your head/eye - my sister in law had similar symptoms, passed it off as migraines, finally got really bad - they found a tumor there - and within 4 months later she died. So I would definitely have this checked out and do not pass it off as nothing.
GO TO THE DOCTOR!! I would even suggest you go to the ER. I am a registered nurse. It could turn out to be a migraine or a cluster headache, but it could be something much more serious. Get it checked out ASAP!
I suffer from migraines, but was diagnosed by an MRI. I would highly recommend getting to the doctor because while it sounds like you have a migraine it could be anything.
It sounds like cluster headaches. My husband gets them and they are awful. Do some research and see your doctor. My husband takes injectable Imatrex. It is expensive, but it has been a life-saver...and he also has some relief by "contrast showers", he gets in the shower and starts with water as hot as he can stand it for a minute or two, and then turns it to as cold as he can take it for a minute or two and back again....continue until it lets up. This sometimes helps if he doesn't have any Imatrex when they hit. Cluster headaches usually come in cycles and last about a month and a half. It seems that a change in seasons is often times a trigger. These headaches are just terrible and I wish you luck in getting them under control.
Ditto - migraine. Also maybe cluster headaches. I've suffered from migraines for years - finally - I did get an MRI just to rule anything out - makes you rest better.
Go to the doctor to get the proper diagnosis - and they will give you some medicine to make it less severe. Also if it's migraines you can attempt to work on figuring out your triggers. For me regardless I always get on within a week of the time change and when I miss a meal.
