GCEC or other electric coop users

Hi, everyone! I need some help and fast! I live in Anna where we only have one choice for an electric company. It is a coop & has been more expensive than TXU ever was when we used them for 10+ years. Anyway, our bill in January was about $150, but in February and March it dropped below $70!! I was so excited. We were using less energy and we could see the difference on our bill... except... In April, our bill came in and it was $450!!!! I called them up immediately. They told me that the reason it was so high is because our meter wasn't reading correctly the past 2 months & so they had to put in a new meter & guesstimate our energy usage for the past 3 months. I went crazy! I didn't believe they could do that, but then found out that the PUC doesn't regulate coops, and we can't change electric companies because this is the only one that services Anna. They told us they would work with us to help us make payments, instead of paying the whole thing, but when my husband called them yesterday to make those arrangements they said that if they didn't have it all by 5/7/07, they would cut off our electricity! I hope that there is someone out there that might know what we can do. ANY advise is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

My husband worked for GCEC for years. He has left because they are...not right. I would call and tell them you are not paying that amount. It is their fault they didn't catch a faulty meter sooner. They can not charge you that amount. If you want I can talk to my husband and see if there is someone in particular who would actually be of help. That company is stuck in doing things one way. My suggestion is to call until you get your way. A faulty meter is their problem and they should have to take the loss. Maybe ask for proof that your meter was not correct...if the meter reader himself was simply reading the meter wrong you should not have to pay for their mistake.

Hi I live in Celina, we are at their mercy, same thing happend to me with the local water company.
This does not help, but go to the top, talk to the main man. This has helped me in the past!
