Foundation problems

A little while ago I noticed a hairline crack in my floor tile, in my master bathroom, running across from my walk-in shower to the cabinet across from the shower. Today the people who had put down the tile four years ago came out and pulled the tile out to replace it. Sure enough there is a crack running along the same area in the foundation.
How badly should I be I freaking out over this? Has anyone else had foundation problems and who is someone I can trust to call about the problem? My house is 17 years old. Thanks for any help!

Janice,

In houston it's not a question of if you have foundation problems. It is a question of when. The soil here just is gumbo and if your house is nearing 20 yrs or older, it is not unlikely that you will have problems. We live in a 50's era home and needed our foundation repaired. After several estimates, we went with Village Foundation. The owner, Kevin is usually involved from the very beginning and is very trustworthy. All the estimates I received were almost completely identical, so I chose the company I felt was the most honest and knowledgable. They had to remove several landscaping bushes during the repair and everyone survived. You wouldn't have known that we had tunnels dug under our home. Good luck. If you have the money now, I highly recommend having it repaired ASAP to avoid further costly cosmetic damage to your interior. The longer you wait, the more shifting will occur and cracks will start to appear and enlarge.
