Hi guys,
We've been in our new house for less than three months and now fire ants are invading. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to rid my house of them?? They are coming in from the under the carpet beneath the baseboards in the bedrooms/closets/bathroom. We have an exterminator (who I'm firing today), if you could recommend a service in the NFW/Keller area that would be great. OR if you have any do-it-yourself methods that would be awesome. I'm VERY allergic to them and have a terrible time when stung. Any suggestions will be GREATLY appreciated!!!
I live in Keller and we had ants in our home too, Todd Boyer of Boyer Pest Control services got rid of them for us once and for all! I was SO relieved!!!

well that's no fun having ants!!! i think it's a problem for many many people in our area (especaily with the HOT weather we've been having). hope you get rid of your ants ASAP!
take care,
Christina
I don't know if this really works but I read recently that if you take a shovel and put a scoop of the dirt from one pile onto another and then take some from the second pile and put it onto the first that they all disappear??? Hope this works for you - how simple if it really works!! I'd love to know if it does!

Does your pest control have a program where they will come back if they didn't take care of the problem for free? We use Frontline and have not had any problems with fire ants. There is some stuff by Ortho that you can sprinkle on your lawn to get rid of them, the worker ants are supposed to bring it back to the queen so that the entire colony will be wiped out. But, if they're coming in from under your house...I don't know what you would do to kill them?! Good luck!!
Hey Trinity,
Do you have house pets? When we first moved here, we had a fire ant invasion! They were after the meaty smelling dog treats/bones. Once I figured out what they were after, I didn't have further problems. I feed my dogs outside only, now.
Of course, I also now have Terminix, but they DO NOT get rid of my fire ants in my yard! (Time to get a new pest control company for me, too.) My husband is also very allergic, so I feel your pain!
Good luck!
Sherri
Hi Trinity,
We use Robbie at Alamo Pest Control. He comes out once a year to spray all around the house. I'm sure he can take care of your fire ants. His office number is 817-735-1183, his cell is 817-896-5994. Good luck!- Susan M
Don't laugh but I have found an easy and safe way to get ride of them.
The stuff you put on the carpet for dogs flee and tick. It's a powder. you can sprinkle this anywhere. Around the base boards on the carpet. The mound that you see outside. It will kill on contact or at least with in a few seconds.
It's less than $5.00
I used this all the time.
They are building new houses around us so all of the little critters are stoping by.
At walmart go down the air freshner row it's in a bright red bottle. It makes your house smell like cinnumin. It smells really good.
If you try every other home remedy and before you pay over $100.00 for some pets controll guy PLEASE try this. I know it sounds wierd but sometimes weird works

If you are looking for a kid-safe way to kill them, oatmeal works. You sprinkle it on the beds and you can put it where they are coming in. It's tried and true-for us anyway!
Last year we had the same problem. We used Terminex and had them out about every third day. They found a bed in the wall that devides the garage from the house and also an exterior wall the has a fire place in it. The main bed was behind the fireplace where the ants had access to it from the weep holes on the house. Check the entire perimeter of your house for several beds and have them stuff all weep holes with copper mesh wiring. Then EVERY year or in our case twice a year spread that "once a year" fire ant killer on your lawn. And them Voila! you are free to move about your house and lawn with little or no fear.
Lots of luck,
Kathleen
