My single 33 yo brother is taking drugs...we think heroin. We want to make an intervention this week but not sure of where to take him. He has other medical issues so we need a place that can care for & treat his other problems. What are the best centers within an hour of LI? Also, I would like any advice on how to handle him when we go to his house.
I had a friend's son who has since been through rehab but had a heroin problem. She first called 911 to get the police there to take him to the hospital and then they brought him to a week in South Oaks. However, it depends on his insurance coverage (as awful as that is) and what places are up front money only. Usually working with someone who understands intervention is the best way. There are numerous places in Pennsylvania that are very good at the rehabilitation part. You know your brother's personality and that is the best way to approach going into the house and having an intervention. Maybe a counselor would be best to have there.
South Oaks in Amityville has a program, and I think Long Island Jewish in New Hyde Park also. You can go online and check...Unfortunately, you cannot make someone go into a facility if they don't want to. Maybe you can do an intervention with a trained professional? Good luck.
