Do you use the same shampoo/conditioner every time...

Do you use the same shampoo/conditioner every time you wash your hair? Should you use the same shampoo/conditioner every time? It seems when I use the same one over and over my hair gets weighed down.

I have about 6 different types of shampoo and or conditioners that I alternate:
Infusium shampoo & conditioner - moisturizing and to keep from getting split ends
Aveeno smoothing + shine shampoo & conditioner - for frizz
neutrogena clarifying shampoo - to get the gunk out of my hair (once every two weeks)
nizoral shampoo - for dandruff (I mostly use in the winter once a week)
Redken Butter Treat conditioner - for extra moisturizing (I mostly use this when I use the neutrogena or nizoral shampoos)
and a fun coconut smelling one for the summer

What do you have in your shower/bath?

I use a natural shampoo and conditioner......every time. If I switch to anything else my scalp breaks out!

Well, DEFINITELY STAY AWAY from SOFTSOAP products, also a lot of JERGENS and AVON..

I just found out this week while reading the ingredients that they use FORMALDEYHYDE. This is a known carcinogen and I am appalled that this very toxic chemical is being used in body and hair products. It is known to cause nasal cancer. Formaldehyde vaporizes easily. So that makes sense. I returned the products to COSTCO and left a customer complaint.

You Q: I rotate through all types of shampoo/condit.....but use the same brand of each at the same time. Then when that's gone I try something different.

I'm a stylist so I have a few that I love using. Then, about once a week I'll use a color glaze or deep conditioning treatment.

I usually keep 2 varieties in the shower and I have one that I use "all" the time, and about once a week I'll use the "alternate" of the two. Lately, I've been lazy and haven't replaced the secondary one. oh well.

Usually, I find that a fresh haircut/trim works just as well as switching shampoos, lol. I try to buy good quality shampoos though... Aussie, Biolage, Kenra, etc...

Ingredients of various shampoos can build up in your hair. That's why it's good to alternate.

I use 2 different shampoos, I cannot use conditioner, my hairs is very fine and short anyway..

I use Aveeno shampoo. And the spray on leave in Aveeno conditioner. My hair gets funny if I use an in-shower conditioner too much.

What a fun question!

Like you, I have different types of shampoos and conditioners. I tend to use Suave's rosemary and mint shampoo and conditioner. I also use Kroger's knock off of Head and Shoulders. I've found the cheap, store bought shampoos are just as good, if not better than the salon products and they're much cheaper.

I use Biolage shampoo for color treated hair and the same brand conditioner. Then, I use the Biolage conditioning balm every other day on top of that. I don't switch brands. My hair seems to be healthy looking. I have heard that we should use a clarifying shampoo every once in awhile, but I don't.

What kind of hair do you have?

I use pretty much the same one each time.
I use, Frederic Fekkai shampoo and conditioner, which I got as a gift. Awesome stuff.
Then I use cheapo Suave shampoo. Its good!
I don't condition each time I wash.
I also use Garnier Fructis leave in hair smoother conditioner. Its light. Never weighs down my hair.
I have thick hair.

I never use clarifying shampoos. I don't have too.

There is such a thing as over shampooing.... shampooing too much which then leaves the hair dry.
Conditioner, I use maybe once a week.

For split ends... just trim you ends regularly. Once you have split-ends....no conditioner is going to 'fix' it. You have to cut it off.

I think, just stick to basics. Maybe you are using too much stuff.

all the best,
Susan

.

I only have 1 type. I can't image having all those different shampoo's and conditioners!

We have 3 types in the shower: mine, my H's, and our son's.

I have uber curly hair (1/2" ringlets), that is very very thick, and medium length (about nipple length when straight, chin length when curly).

I "wash" my hair every day when I'm curly (because it's the only way to brush it, and if I don't brush it every day my hair starts "locking up"/ dreadlocking in 24 hours). But, while I always condition it, at most I shampoo it lightly if at all.

When I blow it out straight, I go several days without washing it (ideally). If I sweat, I have to wash it... because sweat is a) gross and b) makes my hair "poof" (because the curl starts to come back. I go from silky long straight hair to hair that 80's hair bands would kill to have. Ugh. Hate it.

My fav shampoo/conditioner is Kerastase (because it smells spicy and leaves my hair fantabulous)... but I can't afford it.

Instead I use Tres Seme. I DO go back and forth on the different types: Moisturizing, Silky Smooth, Natural... but I just buy different ones as they run out.

I alternate between Matrix (Biolage) shampoo and conditioner and Pantene shampoo and conditioner. I love Matrix, my hair is very long and it got very healthy and strong using it. A lot of my hair fell out when I was breastfeeding.

I use one at a time, but switch every time - based on what is on sale at the salon. I stopped using non-salon brands over a year ago only because I notice a huge difference in my hair. I have used Paul Mitchel, Redken, Big Sexy Hair, Matrix (Biolage) and currently have Matrix Amplify Shampoo and Matrix Sleek and Shine Conditioner. Maybe it is the time of year combined with the products, but right now my hair is SO easy! I can blow dry and go and it really looks good all day long - of course with some brushing :). But I LOVE it!

OOOH! I am a product Junkie! I just like to try new things. Right now I have WEN cream cleanser in sweet almond & cucumber. I also have Aveda shampoo/conditioner for dry damaged hair and a new shampoo conditioner called L'Anza (sp) It smells like coconuts!!
I like switching up for different hair effects and some for deep treatment.
funny thing though, I only use one soap at a time for my body. . . go figure.

I do switch up. I think they lose their effectiveness if you stick with the same brand. I use a differant set depending on what I want my hair to do. When I plan to straighten it I use a heavy moisturizeing set that really weighs it down like Garnier Fructesse, Dove or Pantene Moisturizing. When I want to leave it more tousled or curly, I use something lightweight, like a colorsafe curling shampoo from Herbal Essences.

I found it interesting that another poster has my same rotation. I use Matrix (Biolage) and Pantene shampoos. I don't keep both at the same time. I just buy one, use it up, and then replace it with the other. I stick to the Matrix conditioner all of the time though. I also use Head and Shoulders shampoo on occasion, but especially in the winter. I think I maybe go through 1 bottle a year- 2 at most. I completely agree that if you use the same shampoo all of the time it seems to weigh your hair down. I had never considered using a clarifying shampoo because I do not use any product on my hair.

Do not wash your hair everyday. That strips it of it's natural oils and as you get older your hair will dry out even more. Typically, I wash mine on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. If I'm working out a bunch or repeatedly getting sweaty then I may throw an additional washing in there.
