My daughter is interested in competitive dance classes at her dance studio. I'm not new to dance studios - I danced for over 20 years and danced competitively off and on. However, I'm new to being a mother of a dancer along with the time and financial responsibility of the programs. I'm hoping to poll other mothers and find out what people are paying on average (each month or each year) for recreational dance programs at studios (not community programs tho) as well as competitive dance programs. How much are you spending on costumes, etc. I wouldn't even mind hearing about the different dance studios in the area. Money is not a big issue for us, but the expense has definitely changed from when I was a studio dancer. I'm more curious than anything and that's why I plan to do a little research instead of just signing her up without questioning it.
I have 3 dancers - 2 in competition.
We were at the studio between 3 - 5 times a week depending of if extra practices were required. I figured I paid about $5,000 - $6,000 last year for everything (tuition, costumes, shoes & competition fees).
I do think it depends ont he area that you live in though.
I have heard that could have been much more.
My daughter & I dance at Dance Endeavors in Bloomington http://www.danceendeavors.com/. I pay it all at once, & for this fall/spring it was $710 for 2 classes, recital fee & $50 for the costume.
It's a nice studio, but there are no competitions.
Next year my daughter would like to also take dance line classes at Just for Kix http://www.justforkix.com/danceclasses/. I don't know what they are like.

$40/ month for hour long class non competition. They do not start competition classes until they are at least six and then they do have to tryout.
