Dance costume

Help! My DD is in a dance recital Sat. and is bothered by the ITCHY costume. One mom told me about furance tape foam on one side and sticky on the other which I did but it stuck to her at the dress rehearsal and she was melting down the rest of the evening. Any Ideas??I don't think she would even put it back on unless i do something. Liz S.

Have her wear something under it that the costume can cover - like a leotard, swim suit, under shirt, etc. That will protect her from the itch and no one will know or see it. Check the inside of it and see if there are any tags, strings, or extra pieces of fabric that could be cut off with out damaging the outfit. My girls are the same way. Good luck.

Both my girls always had this issue with dance costumes, and we found duct tape worked great!

One mom I know bought some fleece fabric that matched whatever part of the costume it needed to go on, and hand-stitched it on the inside part of the costume where it itched. It worked like a charm! We also had one class with itching costumes that this year all brought along t-shirts so backstage they took their arms out and kept the top part of their costumes around their waists and their t-shirts on so they just had to have them up for the performance.

Check where they have embroidery supplies in your area. there is a stabilizer that is called Cloud Cover made to iron over embroidered areas to keep from it being itchy. It might work for your daughters costumn. It is light weight and very soft.

My 4 yr. old granddaughter had this problem with the waistband of a dress that had an attached petticoat made of netting material. It drove her crazy. I found a very long white tank top that she could wear under the dress, that came down below her hips. A cotton slip, body shirt, etc., would do the same thing.

My daughters and their entire dance class had the same problem. We lined the inside of the straps with medical bandage tape. You can buy it in the width that will work best, and it's softer and less "crunchy" than other kinds of tape. If more than the straps itch, use a slip or cut an old t-shirt to fit underneath.

sorry I know this is too late for this year, I just checked my email. but for next time... at the dancewear stores they sell a onepeice undergarment type thing that has clear straps and looks pretty soft. I don't have one for my daughter cause she doesn't care about the feel of her costume, but some of the other mom's have them for theirs.
I don't know where you are but in Papillion there is a store called upstairs dancewear or something like that and they sell them I'm pretty sure.

Thank you! I actually combined ideas and hot glued fleece to the itchy seams she didn’t say a word. She had a blast. last dance rectial she was the child saying “I have to go potty” the whole dance. This was much more fun!!! Liz S.
