I am looking for an idea in the Philadelphia area for our cub scout pack to go for an activity that isn't costly. we are looking for ideas for a March event. Any ideas ladies? Ages 6-12yrs
Tereze,
What part of the city/suburbs are you in? Over the years I have planned trips for my children's Scout troops and do have suggestions. If you want, you can send a personal message, or just post here.
Thanks!
I am about to retire as a cubmaster, and I have 13 years as a scout leader in one form or another. If you are in the Philadelphia area (Cradle of Liberty Council), I recommend you go to the council website at http://colbsa.org Check out the Program Partners. There are lots of organizations and business in the area that are partnering with COL to provide programs for scouts. Some of those activities can be pricey, however.
Some of the things we've done over the years are:
Skating parties at local ice/roller rinks
Tours of local businesses (Webelos sometimes find this boring)
Parents versus kids Olympics held at local school gym
Bowling parties at local bowling lanes.
Popcorn and movie night (Our charter organization has a projector and big screen, and we have a copy of the old Disney movie "Follow Me Boys" with Kurt Russell as a boy scout.)
Service projects - neighborhood cleanup or park cleanup.
We also started a hiking club in our pack. Once a month we take a hike. The boys keep a log book, and earn awards for when they reach "milestones". Something as simple as a hike on a nice day in March can be a lot of fun, especially if you coordinate it with interesting sites, maybe a bit of history. For example, there are often reenactor groups at Valley Forge park on weekends. The boys love meeting "real" soldiers from General Washington's army.
