Hello, I am a first time mom and my new baby gets the hiccups with every feeding. It happens after the feeding while I am changing her diaper. She is burping fine, but gets fussy with the hiccups that can last up to 20 minutes. Any suggestions or guidance anyone can offer would be great.
Hi! My name is Amber and I also live in the Churchland area, right off Cedar Road. Congradulations on your new baby! My CJ had hiccups also, not as frequently as your baby though. My sons are 5 and 7 now. Try changing her before you feed her or wait an hour after you feed her before you change her. If she gets the hiccups anyway, try gently "bumping" them out of her. That's where you place her on her tummy so that her legs straddle your leg (since she's so small) with her head on your knees. Keep her head to one side and gently tap your heels. Place a towel of burp cloth under her so she won't drool or spit up on your pants. I have a feeling she may not be latching on correctly and that may be the reason she is hiccuping. Log on to le leche league's web site at
www.lelecheleague.com and you will hopefully get the answers you need. When I had my babies (at chesapeake general) they had a wonderful program with le leche league. You may be able to call the hospital and set up an appointment with a le leche league consultant. Best of luck God bless!
I don't have any advice for you but I am fairly certain that that is normal for newborn babies. Yeah, I just looked it up on google and it says it is, that they will outgrow it. My 19 1/2 month old used to hiccup after every feeding. She still sometimes gets the hiccups occasionally (like once every couple of months) after nursing. So it does get better.
