Did you know that more than 36 million people age 12+ reported using cannabis in a single month—double what it was a decade ago?
As cannabis becomes more widely available and socially accepted, many parents are left unsure of how it truly affects the developing brain. Recent research backed by the American Psychological Association reveals that adolescent cannabis use is linked to:
- Changes in brain development
- Lower academic motivation and GPA
- Reduced long-term income and well-being
- Biological factors that may increase vulnerability
Even when cannabis doesn’t cause lasting cognitive damage, it may undermine educational and life outcomes during a critical growth period.
Parents need science-based guidance—not marketing myths. Start the conversation early. Stick to research. And don’t assume it’s harmless just because it’s common.
