That has good toddler car seats? Family is going on a trip in a couple of months by air and car. I'm trying to decided whether to take our carseat (Britax Marathon) or rent. I've heard not-so-good things about renting but I wanted to see if anyone has had any good experience with a particular car rental agency. Thanks in advance.
I would highly recommend taking your own. The airline will check them as baggage for free. When you rent one, they charge you by the day. Usually about 20$. You might as well buy a new one when you get there for the money you spend. The car seat should be fine in the baggage compartment. I've done this both ways many times and always kick myself when I end up renting from the car agency. Learn from my mistake!
We travel twice a year and we always rent from Avis since my husband is a Gold member due to his work. No matter how late we arrive, the car is ready to go with the car seats, and now booster seats, installed and waiting for us. With two kids and not enough hands, we find it much more convenient to rent the seats with the car than taking ours with us. BTW - the cost is $12 per seat per day or $60 per week max.
We've only had two experiences. We have a baby and a toddler and we have a Britax and a Chicco. Budget sucks. The seats were really cheap and we had to wait until they found enough seats. Then when they gave us the seats, we saw that they were more like booster seats and the directions even said to use with kids 20 lbs or more and we had a 3 month old baby who was 10 lbs. More waiting then we had to install them ourselves. We are using Hertz now (currently on vacation) and they had a better seat though not as good as a Britax and it was just in the back seat not hooked up. We carried the Chicco with us. For the car seat for the toddler, we paid $65 for the week.
