I asked a friend of mine that sews. She said it can be done but you have to know how to sew. You could check with dry cleaners to see if they would do it for you and cost if you don't sew. IN order to do this, you have to open the comforter along the seam and remove the padding up to the point that is the size you want it to be. Then cut the comforter cover material. Cutting while the padding is there can cause a crooked cut. Then you just sew the comforter back up using a hidden sticth. You could hand sew this also but it would take longer. My friend did this to a king sized comforter and made matching pillow cases from the extra material.
