Cake HELP!

We are doing a Chocolate Party for Gianna's first bday and I need cake help. We are going to do a castle cake and above the door put 'Gianna's Chocolate Factory.' So if you have pics of castle cakes, that would be awesome. I also have a few questions for those that have experience with fondant cakes.

  1. Did the filling come on the side or was it inside the cake?
  2. Where did you go to get it?
  3. Do you have a pic you can show me?

Thanks in advance!

I haven't ever done a princess cake, but I have used fondant in the past. I made my own with a recipe from this site.. http://whatscookingamerica.net/PegW/Fondant.htm ..she gave great information on how to make it and how to use it. I did a practice run first just to make sure I could do it. It was a little difficult but turned out well.

Hope that helps! Good luck, it sounds cute!

Pampered Chef has a glass mixing bowl/oven safe that you turn into a Barbie cake. It makes the dress bottom and you stick the doll in the top. Then frost it as a pretty dress. My mom made one when I was little and I now have the same bowl, but haven't made one yet! You can try that!

Hi Lindsay,

I have both done a castle cake and worked with fondant. I'd be happy to send you pic's of the cake I did for my first daughter's 1st bday, which was a knights and princess party. I actually took a few pictures during the assembly process (so glad I did, as I will be doing another one in July for my other daughter's 1st birthday!). I'm not sure I understand the filling question, but I'll answer what I think it is. To keep the filling from coming out the sides, you need to put a "wall" of frosting around the edge of the bottom layer. Put your filling in the middle and spread to the "walls" and then put the top layer on. As far as where, any decent grocery store will carry Solo brand pie and pastry filling. It's in a can in the baking aisle. You can use regular preserves, too. I've done both, and either is fine.

Send me you email and I can send you the pic's. Let me know your fondant questions as well...perhaps I can help. Your party sounds neat. Check out birthdaypartyideas.com for more ideas if you need them. What a great website, full of ideas from regular mom's, not Martha Stewarts!
