Hi I'm looking to move my youngest out of her crib to either a trundle or bunk bed, she's 2 and will be sharing a small room with her 4 year old sister. Any opionions? Have you had good/bad experiences with either? All thoughts appreciated.
I would say that depends on your oldest, My 7 yr old loved getting a bunk bed when she was 4, my now 4 yr old is very nervous getting up and down and it wouldnt make for a good situation, she will go up and read with her sister before bed and I usually have to help her down.... I would not put her on the top bunk full time. Maybe take her shopping and let her climb up on a couple and see if she likes them.

bunk beds are good unless you have a big enough bedroom for 2 twin beds. my 3 & 5 yr old each have a twin sofa bed
Both of your children are too young to safety sleep on the top bunk of a bunk bed. Personally for my family, my two girls didn't want to sleep apart (one is 9 and one is 3) after a summer of slumbering together on the floor, so we went out and bought a bunk that has a regular sized bed on the bottom. This way, they can sleep together now and be seperate too, when they decide that they need it. (The oldest one can sleep on the top bunk). Or another idea that I just now had, if you bought them a regular set of twin bunks and then trimed the legs on them so that the bunks were not as high, then it would be safe for them. I just remembered that my parents did that to the bunks that they have for the grandkids and it works out great!
Hi Carisa J, I have a trundle bed for my two girls, one is 4 and one is 10, they love it. When my four year old was two we moved her into the main bed because it has the three sides to it and we added one of the side railing that slide under the mattress so she couldn't fall out of bed. The 10 year old is my step daughter and we only have her every other weekend so it is nice to be able to just pull out the bottom bed and set it up for her and then put it away when she is back at home. It gives my 4 year old a little more room to play. The pull out bed is nice to have because it is easier to move around when you want to change the room around for a new look. I hope this helps, good luck in finding the right bed for you girls.
DON'T get a BUNK BED. FIRE DANGER: Ya know how they say if you wake up in a fire, do NOT sit up in your bed, just the difference of temperature from where you're laying to where your head would be if you sat up could KILL you. Now think about that kid at the top of a bunk bed, how high up he is. Sure, you could have a working fire alarm. Hopefully you do. But if a fire starts, basically you have TWO minutes so get safely out of a house on fire. Think about that. That kid on the top bunk will breathe that hot air and poisonous smoke in and won't even have a chance. It's not worth it. Get the trundle bed, that's what my girls have :)
Thanks for the responses, it’s nice to have another mother’s opinion on things. We ended up getting a trundle bed for the girls, they are very excited to be sleeping next to each other! And then just in case we opted for the twin bed that could later be turned into bunk beds, leaving the trundle underneath for that friend sleepover that is sure to come some day.
