With my first baby I used Avent bottles, but now with my next baby on the way, I have learned more about the importance of Bisphenol-a (BPA) Free bottles. What are your recommendations on these new bottles? What have you found you like/don't like and why? Thanks!
I just read in parent's magazine that Avent makes BPA free bottles, but they are more expensive. I'm sure you can google their website and there should be info on there.
I've been using Born Free (plastic) bottles, and have no complaints about them; other than the fact they are so expensive!
I use glass bottles.
I used glass bottles with my son. Honestly, they were the best bottles I have ever used. One, they were very inexpensive, I believe the Evenflo version was $6 for three bottles. Two, they never leaked. I always had problems with Avent and Dr. Brown's leaking. Three, they cleaned up beautifully. A trip through the dishwasher and they looked like new. I feel that the others got cloudy after several uses. As far as the breakage possibility, I dropped them SEVERAL times and actually only broke one. Thankfully it was in my garage. I hope this helps. My son now uses the Born Free sippy cup, BPA-free plastic. Good Luck!
If you are not looking to spend very much money, I used the New Parent's Choice BPA Free bottles. They are around $2.00 for there bottles. I also love the Nuby bottles from Babies R Us. They are also BPA free. They are a little more expensive $7.50 for three. They also have evenflow bottles that are BPA free. However, I am very picky with nipples, I buy the similac ready to feed nipple and rings (not the formula - just the nipple and ring)and use those nipples.
I also use Born Free bottles. I really like them. Be aware there are a few parts. Two inner discs that fit together & use under the nipple.
My daughter is six months old & is exclusively breast fed (no formula) so I don't have a lot of bottle experience with her. But I do try to pump & then give her a bottle now & then & we use the "Born Free" 5 oz bottles. I like them (no leaking problems) but my baby would of course prefer to nurse so she'll only sort of drink from them. I also tried the Thinkbaby 5 oz but those do seem to leak more. Good luck!!
I use born free bottles with my son. They were a little pricey but I'm all about BPA free. They are very much like avent!
I switched from Dr. Brown's to "Born Free" bottles half way thru my babies first year. She took to them with no problems! They are easier to clean too! They have a slight yellow tint to them, but they explain why on the pkg that they are like that...safer plastics. They are expensive thou...2 bottles were $19 I think!!!
Hope that helps a little! Oh...and I've only seen them at Babies R Us. Not at Target or Walmart yet.
:)
I use the BPA free Evenflo bottles. Cheap, cheap, cheap. Cute colors. Evenflo also has glass, as others have said, but I have not tried those. I didn't start using them until about 7 mo., so don't know how they do for newborns. Congrats and good luck!!
We too used Avent the first time around and I thought I really liked those until I turned them in to babies r us for a credit and got Born Free. LOVE them!! They are a little more to wash b/c of the vent but great. There is no letting go of the nipple to let the air out like avent and would highly recommend them!! They are expensive however so since I am nursing we only bought about 6 of them while I was at work. I think they are better than Dr. Brown's b/c of the pain it is to clean those however know they make the BPA free ones now too.
I use Born Free as well and have no complaints. We tried Sassy MAM but had a lot of leaking from the nipple and the bottom. Gerber also makes a BPA free bottle and they are very cheap -- 3 for $5 or so. We had problems with the nipples on those though.
If you do a google search, there are lots of lists of BPA free bottles. Just make sure you have an updated list. Dr. Brown's now makes a BPA Free, but that wasn't on several of the lists that I've seen. BRU is having a hard time keeping them in stock though.
I read Avent now has BPA free bottles.

I have primarily nursed so my bottle experience isn't extensive, but i have always used the glass and loved them, they are inexpensive, can go safely in the microwave and get nice and clean in the dishwasher, and I have never had one break- though I heard there are sheaths you can buy to make them unbreakable.
Go glass. Dr. Brown glass bottles are the best. So you pay a little more, but it is worth it.
Hi Tina
I am a very big fan of the Dr.Browns Glass Bottles, I 1st tried the Born free BPA free but found them to be difficult to assemble you have to tighten it just right it does not just tighten all the way to give the correct flow, you either leave it to lose and get milk everywhere or too tight and the milk does not come out right, my baby was also very fussy with them, once I switched to Dr Browns glass bottles he feeds like a dream, they are easy to assemble, you can warm them even though they are glass with cold formula/breast milk stright from the fridge, in the early learning bottle warmer, hope this helps....I know Dr Browns also have BPA free plastic bottles for when they feed themselves

Really, it depends on what you are looking for and how much you want to spend. I recently turned in all my Avent bottles. I really liked them and used them with each of my 3 children--because I used them with my first 3 I had to find out more about the concern. My understanding is that the concern stems from when the old bottles are heated to a specific temperature and the chemicals that are released at that temperature. This laid to rest many of my worries---I guess you were not asking about that, nevertheless...when I turned in my Avents, I maximized my credit and replaced with Evenflow BPA free since, when I returned the bottles, my twins were past the concern of how they would respond to the nipple and how the bottle and it's flow would affect their air intake and gasiness. I was tempted to go Bornfree or Brown. Bornfree was just too much for me and I am not sure why I did not go with Brown (according to Babies R Us employee, Brown is the new Avent). Thought about glass, yet my children were at the point where they would be holding bottles on their own and I was not sure how they would do with the glass bottles...
FINALLY---Avent is suppose to come out with BPA free bottles this year...so you really do not HAVE to change
Good Luck. Sorry to babble on....
try breast feeding and you won't have to worry about any of that stuff If you are able. It's the best thing for the baby in many ways.
I used the the Born Free bottles with my baby. There are other options available to you as they are not the only bottles BPA free. Avent does make a BPA free bottle. They are the TEMPO dropins. I've heard great things about them. Here is a blog that also has tons of info.

Good luck in your search. I'm sure you'll find what is best for you.
