Boy names in a song...

So a few months ago I asked a question about names we liked and what you all thought. I realize that I LOVE the idea of our kids having names that are also in songs. For instance, my son is named Austin and there is a Blake Shelton (country singer) song called, "Austin." We really like the names Caroline (Sweet Caroline...Neil Diamond) and Georgia (Georgia on My Mind...Ray Charles), but for the life of me, I cannot come up with tons of boys names that work with Austin, AND that are also in a song (probably because women don't sing about men ;) )! I really like the name Jude (Hey Jude...The Beatles), but am afraid it could cause problems. What names can you ladies think of?

Hope you are having a good evening!

***The only reason I think Jude could cause a problem is because I don't want anyone over the age of say 20 now to break out in "Hey Jude, look what you've done" every time he does something (good or bad). You don't automatically break out in song when you hear the other names, but my fear with Jude is people would. Is that an irrational fear?

***Also, I like names that are not "popular". If it would be in the top 25, it's not for me! Thanks so much!

The only ones I can think of are Jesse's Girl and Oh Mickey your so fine LOL. If I think of more I'll post.

Here's a site with 357 of them!

And a few that came to my mind: Maxwell (Maxwell's Silver Hammer), Levon (Elton John) Daniel (Is Travelling Tonight on A Plane--another Elton song) Jack & Diane (Mellancamp)

Daniel-from the Elton John song.

Curious as to why the name "Jude" would cause problems...I think it's a cool name and a fantastic song!

It didn't occur to me to think about songs before my children were born.
However, for each of my children, I made up a special song
with his or her name in the song.
I didn't create the melodies.
I used existing songs and created new words just for them.
In fact, I just reminded myself of a cute nostalgia moment.
I used to sing "Oh Shoshana, don't you cry for me . . . "
When she got to preschool and heard "Oh Susanna, don't you cry . . . "
she informed the teachers that they had the lyrics wrong.

I also don't understand why the name Jude could cause problems????

Well, there's Lady GaGa's song where she sings about two guys - "Fernando" and "Alejandro." I realize you're probably looking for a much older song, but that just came to mind.

My mind is blank now, but I'll post again if I think of something. Please let us know what the problem is with Jude.

Devil went down to Georgia...

"...The boy said my name's Johnny
And it might be a sin
But I'll take your bet
And you're gonna regret
'Cause I'm the best there's ever been"

Johnny B Good, is another fun Johnny song.

Sublime uses several, but you probably don't want THOSE as references

"Hey Mucho Gusto, Ilama Bradley..."

"Rockabye Sweet Baby James"....James Taylor.

I love Jude too. There are boys named Julian. I don't think Jude would cause any problems.
"Boy Named Sue"....Johnny Cash.
(Just kidding!)

"Bennie and the Jets"
"Oh Danny Boy"
"Johnny Angel"
"Louie Louie"

"You Don't Mess Around With Jim" ~ Jim Croce
"Charlie Green Play That Slide Trombone" ~ Jim Croce
"Bad, Bad Leroy Brown" ~ Jim Croce
''Jessie's Girl'' ~ Rick Springfield
''Danny Boy'' ~ An Old Scottish Balad
''Me and Bobby McGee'' ~ Janis Joplin
"Ben" ~ Michael Jackson
''Fernando'' ~ Abba
''Hit the Road, Jack'' ~ Ray Charles
"Jeremy" ~ Pearl Jam

Hey! Cool idea! I just googled and got this site... lots of options!!!

http://www.songfacts.com/category:songs_with_boys'_names_in_the_title.php

I am not going to look and see if it's on the top "25", but how about Daniel. (Daniel, my brother, you are older than me...) I love that name.

I don't have any new suggestions, but just a comment... I have a good friend who named his son Jude. He is a big Beatles fan, but if you like that name, who cares what people say? I love the name Jude, and you certainly don't see a lot of Judes around! Just embrace it and go for it!

Michael as in "Michael from Mountains" by Joni Mitchell and "Michael & Son" by Cat Stevens.
Charlie, I don't remember the artist or the exact title, might be "Charlie and the MTA" but it went "He never returned, no he never returned and his fate is still unlearned. He may ride forever 'neath the streets of Boston; he's the man who never returned..."
Several others have mentioned "Jessie's Girl" which reminded me there was a song called "Bobby's Girl" By Leslie Gore, I think.
Jeramiah (... was a bullfrog)
"Dominique" by the Singing Nun was #1 for a long time around 1965.
The old folksongs, "Tom Dooley" or "John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt" or "Jacob's Ladder"
there's always Nicholas, so many songs have been written about jolly old St. Nicholas! Rudolph & Frosty too of course!
I love the name Jude, maybe 'cause I love that song? But the main reason we didn't name any of our boys Jude has nothing to do w the song, it's because it's a form of Judas, who is the one who betrayed Jesus, therefore has bad connotations for many Christians.

Billy and Bill have been repeated several times that I can think of.
My husband said, Danny Boy.

It is, sadly, in the top 25 (but not the top 10), but I like James if you're going for songs. I love James Taylor and like the song "Sweet Baby James."

I still haven’t come up with anything (hubby cannot stand Jude), but think that maybe possibly I could make Carter (our first choice) work if I say that Deanna Carter wrote the song “Strawberry Wine”. It’s a stretch, but I guess it’s better than nothing! Thanks for all of your help ladies…there were a lot that I really liked, but hubby said no way!
