I was going to ask "Baby Strap-Ons for plus-size Moms" but that sounded weird. What do they call the carriers that you strap on to yourself?? I've never used one, but I want to use one for this baby, because they just seem so much more convenient and less bulky that the car seats carriers.
So I wear a size 22/24, which means that any run-of-the-mill carrier wouldn't work for me, it has to fit around me. Comfort is a big issue, I won't use it if it's not comfortable for me.
Any of you have any experience with this? Know of one that will work?
You might want to consider a Moby Wrap. It will last longer and can be used when the child is a toddler. Plus, you can adjust it no matter how large or small you are. The cost will be about the same as a really comfortable baby carrier. The cheap ones just do not have the padded straps and adjustments needed. Regular baby carriers are kind of like bassinets, only used for a little while until the baby gets too heavy.
I am about a 20 right now, and there are 2 carriers I use that fit well and are comfortable.
For a smaller baby, or in the winter, I use a Sleepy Wrap (basically the same as the Moby Wrap), but since I don’t know the Moby’s length I wouldn’t know if it is long enough for a plus sized mom.
For my clip-on carrier, I use an Ergo Sport. I have a very large midsection, and there is plenty of length in the waistband for me to use it. I can even put it on unassisted, as long as I have loosened the upper strap enough to maneuver it once it is on.

I have a Moby Wrap - it’s really long and should work. I will say I couldn’t figure it out at all - I went into a diaper shop (they sell a lot of cloth diapers, nursing stuff, carriers, etc). They helped me figure it out - and we still use it 10 months later. I bought a cheap one from Target - $40. After going there, they showed me a nicer version - it’s stretchy and easier to use. I would look for that one. My other girls at 15 and 7 - so I use it everywhere - it’s so much easier to “go” with it on - fishing, walks, sporting events, etc. I will say I still keep her facing me at 10 months because it’s easier on my shoulders and back, I seriously hardly feel her. When I turn her out, it feels like I’m pregnant again. She doesn’t seem to mind, but again it’s all she knows. She still naps in it if we are out and about where she won’t nap in a stroller. When she was really little, she nursed a lot in it and it’s very discreet. She loved being held so it was the only way I could get stuff done.
I also have a Baby Bjorn that I use sometimes but prefer the moby.
I’m a 2X top. Moby wrap works great- comfy plus one size fits all. Fantastic for winter or indoors but can get hot wearing an extra layer in the summer. I’ve heard the Bali Breeze wraps are lighter weight though.
I can also use a large hotsling, but I prefer 2 shouldered carriers for longer trips. I can wear a normal Ergo, but the ergo sport has even longer straps and waistband.
Bjorn/Snugli type carriers were uncomfortable for me, felt like all the extra weight was hanging from my chest instead of being distributed more evenly.
I am a size 20 and I use a Boba Baby Wrap. It is wonderful! It’s basically a Moby Wrap, but it’s stretchy. It works so well, no matter what size you are!
