baby acne

hello and thank you all for the last reaspons it was helpfull
this time im needing to know a bit more about baby acne. our pediatrican says that it should clear up. my daughter now 5weeks old has baby acne and it seems to be getting worse. i wash her face once a day and if she spits up i clean her face with soap and water. this morning it just seems that its getting worse. i looked on line and it was not much help either. just the same thing the dr told us. im thinking of taking her back to the dr just to ask what else we can do. I feel so guilty when she wakes up in the morning and her face is red as can be and more acne is showing. some times it looks like its getting better and other times it looks so bad it brings tears to my eyes because it seems that there is nothing that can be done. If any of you have a soultion to the problem of mine please help thank you

Baby acne is often worsened by the use of soap products and over-washing of the skin. When the skin gets dried out, it goes into overdrive in producing the oils naturally present in the skin. Use warm (not hot) water only on her face and wash it less. Also, never ever ever try to break the little pimples. This can introduce bacteria and lead to other problems, including the potential for scarring.

If you are nursing her, you might try putting a little breast milk on the acne. It has all kinds of great stuff in it, including antibiotic and antiviral properties. If you notice her skin is very dry, you could try putting a tiny amount of Aquaphor on it. (This is also great for protecting a baby's bottom - although it is pricey. A jar or bottle lasts a very long time, though!)

Your doctor is right. Time is the only thing that will really do the trick. There are so many things we just have to "get through" when it comes to raising our children. This is just one of them. Don't let it bring you to tears! She really will grow out of it, and in the mean time, just love her exactly the way she is. :)

I hate to tell you this, but all that washing can make it worse! If she gets some food or something on her face, rinsing it with water is sufficient. I used soap only once a week. Try using something to moisturize her face if you have to use soap on it. Perhaps try some tea tree oil- I put that in my baby wipes (cloth.) You can get a bottle in the health products section. It's expensive but a tiny bit goes a long way.

My 7 week year old had a bad case of baby ache which started at about 4 weeks. I was really worried about it as well. It looked awful. I just bathed her once a day and rinsed her face and neck with water. I put lotion on one side and it just made it worse. The other side I did nothing. It cleared up faster. She is almost completely cleared up now. I know it is scary and looks bad but it will go away soon and by its self.

it will go away, for sure. i am not sure what the cause is, but it is not permanent. i have two kids, 7 and 3, they had it and are fine now. a friend of mine has a 6 week old baby, and her doc told her tht the acne has something to do with the mom's hormones in the breast milk, that they are adjusting. never heard that before, but still never fear!

normal even out to three months. it often peaks at two months. mustela foaming shampoo for newborns kknocks it out topically though if you don't want to wait. :)

Delma, my first baby had the same thing. I was a first-time Mom. I would wake up and anxiously go look at her and for five weeks she stayed broken out. I was nursing and someone told me it was hormonal (my passing it to her in my milk). Needless to say, I was very upset about it. It took five weeks and cleared up. I tried a low dosage of hydrocortizone cream and other things, but found that time did the trick. Try to relax. Lots of babies go through this....this is what I have heard anyway. Enjoy her. One day you will look at her and hardly remember the breakout. Brenda

My son had baby acne too and I just hated seeing his precious little face marred by it. I am a first time mom too and it really upset me. I called the Dr. and he prescribed a topical cream which cleared it up almost immediately. I used it alot for several months until my son got out of that stage. I have talked to other moms who were also prescribed a cream for their babie's face, so maybe you can mention that to your Dr. and see if he can help you. Hang in there, they do get over it! Take care :)

I am with the others... soap will make it worse. my 2 yr. old son had it terrible for a full 3 months. Looking back at pictures it was not nearly as bad as I remember it being. Warm water and patience... and as an pimplepoppingaholic, don't do it... it can make it worse and can scar their fragile skin. Also, it is hormones from birth rather than breast milk is what my doc told me. That is why it gets better even if you continue to breast feed. Good luck...

water only, no soap for baby! uses little or no chemicals on baby's skin, My baby is 35 years old.

It's like the doctor said, it's normal and will clear up. I wouldn't use soap on a babys face as she may be allergic to it. Just warm water would be good.
My daughter had the same problem with the acne and the doctor told me it was because of my harmones and I was breast feeding. I breast fed with my second daughter also but never had the problem.
I always worried that when she got older she would have an acne problem too, but she never did, she always had and still does have a beautiful complexion. Good luck with you new baby.

Hi Delma -
I am a mother of 4 and my youngest is 6mos, so I remember those days all too well. All my kiddos had the baby acne, and there is really nothing you can do, and washing it frequently can sometimes be worse, because it drys out the area. My little ones would get it on their scalps too. I know you feel like you need to fix it, but trust the Dr's it will pass, and in the meantime you could look it up online, and verify everything for yourself, I always google everything ;)
Good luck and take care.

My Boys had this too! I used ARBONNE bay wash and lotion. It helped. Be careful what you put on your babies skin. If you like I can help you get a hold of some ARBONNE, bay products. They are the best and really work! Msg me back, I'll tel ya more! Peace Mama, April

I have your solution!!!!! Well it worked for us. Aquaphor made by Eucerin. It is in Walmart, Target, etc....WONDERFUL for any little thing that appears and you don't know what to do with it. My son had a small rash the other night and we put it on there...gone within minutes. Crazy I know!! My doctor friend recommended it to me! She is a saint.

Also, A and D ointment is gret too. You can buy it at the same places!
I pray this helps. It has been our lifesaver over and over and well you get the point!!

I know it's frustrating to hear, but there really isn't anything you can do, and it WILL go away eventually. Trying to get rid of it, especially with products that are not made for babies, can not only waste your money but could make the situation worse. I know it looks bad, but it really doesn't bother her. If you try washes that dry out her skin or otherwise irritate it, though, it WILL bother her.

Baby acne really isn't an uncommon problem, although it may feel like it is because every baby you see on TV has wonderfully smooth and unblemished skin. I know I thought I was doing something seriously wrong when my son broke out with a major case of baby acne. But those babies are no different than the teen actors you see on TV with their wondefully smooth and unblemished skin--they're just luckier than the rest of us! :-) My son had baby acne for several months--almost a year--and I'd begun to despair that it would NEVER go away. Eventually, though, the doctor was right, and it did. Trust me--people are able to see past the pimples to the beauty of your baby girl. :-)

Find an ARBONNE consultant. The baby products are the best and they will not harm you baby. I would imagine that you would see a clear up soon after use. The products are all naturall, botancially based....you cannot go wrong. I live outside of houston so let me know if you have a problkem finding one...I can help

Hi Delma, About the baby acne. You should not use soap even if it is baby soap on your baby's face. Her skin is too sensitive. Also, it could be heat rash if she is hot natured. Just about all babies have baby acne. If that is what it is she will grow out of it. Also make sure you use baby laundry detergent. Hope this helps. Good luck

No more soap, it just dries the skin! A washcloth with water on it should be enough to remove anything from her face and body. I rarely use soap on my children at all and when I do I never use Johnson & Johnson or any of the questionable "name brands" I stick with Burt's Bees which is avalible in tons of places now, like Traget, HEB, or Walgreens.

p.s. if you are breastfeeding you can try expressing a little milk and putting it on your baby's face. Breast milk is great for all kinds of stuff and it's positively all natural!!

I understand your concern. I went through the same thing. The only thing that has worked is Arbonne's ABC baby care line. It is all pure with no mineral oil, dyes, or harsh chemicals. It worked like magic. I will be happy to send you a sample if you would like. Also, don't use dryer sheets. It irritates the skin.

It is hormones, but not from breast feeding. I was unable to breast feed either one of my boys and both had it. My oldest it cleared and was replaced by eczema. My youngest cleared up with time. And then the eczema came.
No, baby acne doesn't mean your child will get eczema. Please don't worry. It runs in our families.
I just don't want you to think breastfeeding is the culprit because it simply is not true. The baby was in a perfect, safe environment for 9 months, she is adjusting to her new world. That includes adjusting to the air and everything else.

Give it time. She's perfect, I am sure.
