any hockey moms out there?

my son is just over 5 & discovered hockey......i want my kids to be in sports but hockey scares me a little.....he is good at sports but hockey has big sticks & a flying puck......does anyone have their kids in hockey? where? i found all seasons arena in naperville/aurora but does the fox valley park district have anything later in the year (i didnt see anything on the booklet)?

Not a hockey mom YET...my son is only 16 months right now. But I am a hockey wife. My husband has played been playing hockey since he was a small kid. A lot of my friends growing up played hockey. They wear a lot of padding. Like football there is more physical contact. The friendships that hockey players have with each other are pretty strong.

My biggest concerns with the hockey playing is the cost of it. Indoor sports cost a lot more and also the hockey gear is expensive. You may want to start visiting play-it-again sports to find equipment.

I think most people have their kids in the Sabres hockey around here.

I probably didn't help you out that much - just some random thoughts about my view of hockey. I will be a hockey mom probably soon. My husband is ready to put skates on our son tonight. Good luck and I wouldn't worry too much about injuries. Boys play so rough they are probably more likely to get injured on the playground.

I am not a hockey mom, but have friends who are. I don't know of any park district that has hockey. Check with the 7 Bridges Ice Rink and they can help you. In my area, most people play on the Sabres.

Hockey is very expensive between all the equipment and fees. The further along you get, the more you travel for the games. I have a friend who has a kid in middle school and they had lots of games in the Dells. She said that this year they might be traveling to Indianapolis a lot. When they are younger they don't travel as much, it goes up as they get older.

I have a neighbor whose son lived with another family in Colorado because he wanted to play hockey there. He spent his senior year in high school there. She went back to work to pay for the hockey.

There's also the weird practice times. The older kids have to get up early/stay up late for their ice time.

Sorry if this is overkill. I like to know what goes on down the road when one of my kids is starting a sport.
