around what age did your kids get their 2 year molars? that may sound stupid since they're called "2 year molars," but i'm wondering if my 22 month is already working on them. he was unbelievably irritable today. it could have just been a bad day, we all know we have those once in a while. also, how long did the process of those teeth last? his eye teeth took forever! are these even more painful and take even longer?
I think 2 year molars come in anywhere from 20 months (my first daughter) to 28 months. My second is just finishing up and I think it's been two months. The bottoms came in first and the tops a month later. The sharp points come up first, they hurt, but remember that tears are worse than cuts. They leave a little circle of flesh in the dent that kind of has to rip out. This is the terrible week. Buy a new tube of orajel and use it before they eat. When they bite down on the painfulness, they may go a little crazy...
My little girl just got hers at 2 years and 7 months old (31 months? I'm bad at math!) She got all her teeth late, though. Her first tooth wasn't until 16 months old! So maybe I'm not the best one to respond, LOL.
I work at a dental office, and every kid (and adult) are so different! He sounds right on track, I have a boy who is 3 next month and he just finished the last (upper right) 2nd molar. It sometimes takes a while, nature keeps it slow so it's not as painful of an experience. Just make sure after he cuts them you check to see if you need to start to floss them-they may touch the first molar. We like to see kids at about 3 at our office, they gennerally (but not always!) have all 20 baby teeth and will cooperate to some degree!
