1st Grade Holiday Party Need Games

I am one of the three room mom's for my son's first grade Holiday party. I am suppose to come up with three games. Someone else is doing craft and snack. If anyone can suggest any games that would be great. Thanks and Happy Holidays to you!!

A couple of suggestions:

  • have 3 stations and divide the class into 3 groups so that each game only has 1/3 of the class. One parent is in charge of each station
  • keep the games short and simple; 10 minutes or less

  • game 1:
    Fill the Stocking (this becomes their take-home gift as well);
    materials needed
1.small inexpensive stocking or sock; (one for each child; you can personalize it by putting their names on them with fabric paint or markers)

  • small wrapped candy and/or toys, pencils, stickers, etc.

  • chopsticks
How to play: children should be on the floor or at a large table; place a large pile of goodies in the middle; hand out 2-3 chopsticks and give the children 2 minutes to put as much as they can in their stockings using the chopsticks; pass the chopsticks on after 2 minutes.

  • game 2:
    Christmas Trivia
Materials Needed: age appropriate Christmas questions (consult the other moms or teacher about Santa questions and/or what info about Christmas has been covered in class); prizes (stickers, Wendy's jr. frosty cert., pencils, pens, etc. & maybe one bigger prize for the final question)
How to Play: students sit in their desks, you ask a question, raise their hand to answer, you call on the first hand up, if it's correct, they pick a prize, otherwise you ask again

  • game 3:
    Christmas Memory
Materials Needed: large tray, 15 – 20 small Christmas items that will fit on the tray, pencils and paper
How to Play: pair the group into 2 teams; display the tray to the group for 1 minute and then cover it up. The children get 3 minutes to write down all of the items they can remember. hopefully 1 child in each team will have strong enough writing skills, if not, assign 2 parents to this game and have the parent write down the items for each team.

you'll find lots of ideas online too! just google kids Christmas parties.

have a great time and remember to bring in a cd player or ipod and have Christmas music in the background!
