First Time Parents - Are SIDS Alarms Necessary?

We are new parents to a healthy, baby boy, 9 days old now. The OB nurses have mentioned "SIDS" so often that my husband and I are completely freaked out. I have looked up SIDS monitors (Angel Care) and read the reviews. They vary from great, a life saver, to don't bother. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Q Re: Angel Care Sleep Monitors

I am about to get an Angel Care sleep monitor and I've heard mostly great things about it. My only concern is that during the summer months my hubby and I have fans going in our bedroom and sometimes even the A/C. I've heard that the monitor is so sensative that even a fan blowing at the crib can register as baby movement and so defeats the purpose. Has anyone else had this experience and if so how do you deal with the hot summer months? I want to keep my baby cool and I don't want to sweat to death, either! I was thinking perhaps we...

6 Month Old Baby to Now Sleep in His Crib

Hi everyone, I have a beautiful 6 month old boy whom thus far have been sleeping in our bed since he was born. We want to start putting him now on his crib at night when he sleeps. My concern is he keeps bumping his head on his wooden crib when his rolling and always dangles his feet outside the crib, through the slats. I am just afraid that once he sleeps there on his own at night and we're in the other room, he might bang his head really hard or get himself in a weird position with his feet dangling throught the crib slats. We've...

Sleeping in Crib

I am having issues putting my 4 month old in his own crib to sleep. I think because I my own insecurities (with the issues we have had in the past in conceiving) I am so afraid to let him sleep in there. I tried the AngelCare Monitor (which has way to much static for me to sleep). He sleeps in his crib for naps but at night I still have him in the bassinet next to me. I am sure I am not the only one that has felt this way and I just wanted to find out if there were somethings that other moms did to help ease their tension when putting...

Letting Infant Sleep on Tummy

I know that because of SIDS the AAP and other organizations/doctors recommend almost always putting your baby to sleep on their back, except in extreme cases of reflux or other medical problems. With my first daughter, I always put her to sleep on her back, but she learned to roll over to her tummy at about 7 or 8 weeks, and slept much better once she did. With my 7 week old, she has not learned to roll over and does not seem like she's planning to try it anytime soon (like my first did), but I have let her sleep on her stomach a few times...
