Yikes, Got the Heebee Jeebees, Creepy Feeling

So I am normally fine with being the head of household, single parent, living alone thing. I have been doing it for ages.
But, I have the creepies tonight. Seeing shadows, and jumpy. Don't know why.
My son had a band concert, we went, he played, I listened, we came home, everything was fine, animals present and accounted for, etc.

But, I just have the creeps. I have checked all the door locks and window locks twice - and I usually forget to lock anything!

So, any suggestions? What do you do when you have the creeps? And, no, calling hubby to look will not work for me - unless you can send yours over to check my property. LOL

Thanks!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I have the TV on for background noise.
I have the porch light on and always leave a couple small lights on in the house as I hate a pitch dark house.
I have 4 dogs, three of which are dachshunds who bark at the slightest thing - built in four legged alarms.
Since I don't have any wine I may just take a Benadryl and watch Food Network.
I know it will pass.

Thank you all for the encouragement. It is nice to know that I am not the only one who gets the creepies every now and then.

I feel silly now. LOL

@ Nancy - "call 911 when they hear me scream" had me screaming with laughter.
@ Laurie - wonderful verse - thank you
@ Victoria - wow, am glad I don't have a basement - those a the scariest things.

I can definitely tell you what NOT to do - don't watch a scary movie. I did that once when my husband was working late, and I thought I was going to pee myself. If you can't sleep, watch a light, funny movie. That always helps me!

This happens to me whenever my husband is out of town for work. I definitely sleep with the TV on and I also leave the outside lights on to our home. Wouldn't hurt to leave a light on in your kitchen or something too. Keep your phone by you.....it will be morning before you know it!

I always double check the windows are locked, and blinds are down. Front and back screens and doors both locked and I always double check the car is locked before bed. My husband thinks I'm nuts some nights- like last night when I made him get up at 1am to shut the windows in the living room because I had fallen asleep early.

This happens to me on occasion. It would happen when I was single and living alone sometimes, but it still happens when now that I'm married with kids! Listen to the energy! Nothing wrong with that. Get a home security system you can set to "stay." that helps me the most because I know we would wake up and be ready the minute it went off if someone broke in. Just be very alert! We have feelings for a reason! It's also okay to be yhe crazy call-in on 911 if you thinkyou're being watched or something! Always be safe rather than sorry!

You can get door alarms, that hang on the door handle.
We had these, when I was a kid.
Just go to Amazon, and in the search box put "Door Knob Door Alarms" and many will turn up.

There are also "Window Door Alarms" too. Look that up online.

It works.
We had a Peeping-Tom, when we were kids. At our house.

Listen to your gut feeling.
If anything, you can call the Cops, and they will search around your home. Just tell them you thought you heard someone outside etc.
That is what my Dad did, when I was a kid.

Also, around the house: put Cinders. Those cinder rocks. BECAUSE, when someone walks on it, it WILL make noise. Put it, around the direct perimeter of your house.... along the windows/doors etc. ALL around. About 1 foot in width.
That is what my Dad, did too.
We found footprints, outside our windows.

AND, make sure your have Flood-Lights, around your house outside. Turn them ON.

That is what I would suggest.

I never get the "creeps" anymore but when I was young I would watch commercials and for some reason that would make them go away. Make sure all the curtains/blinds are drawn as well...just in case. Does this happen to you often? Maybe a good guard dog would help you feel secure as well...like a german shephard who barks at anything nearby!

I quote 2 Timothy 1:7 "For God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and discipline." I know in context it's not talking about the boogey-man, but it still comforts me when I get the creeps.

yikes. I hate that feeling! the only thing that makes me sleep better on those nights is setting my alarm. I feel locked in and safe once I set it. you can get one for about $10/month now so you might consider it. it is well worth the money to make me feel safer with my children. We also have a gun so as much as some are against it, I feel safer knowing it is there. It is up super high and hidden so not sure I could even get to it without a step ladder but knowing it is there feels good.

Nancy had me laughing with that. With me, talking on the phone just increases it because I feel like I can't be aware of my surroundings on the phone. Honestly, I would go in your room, have the door open, or the living room and try to watch a comedy or a movie you get absorbed in. It makes me feel better. That's what I do. I hate having the heebee jeebees... I ALWAYS get them the first few nights I'm at a new place and then random times. Depending on who you are, either a corner of a house (like your room with the door open) or the living room where you feel like you can see everything and watch a movie or play with the dogs. One of my cats thinks she's a dog and will growl if she hears unfamiliar movement. So I get her to lay by me so if she perks up I start getting wary.

And I totally agree with you, even finished basements give me the creeps... maybe cuz horror movies are in basements (at least when I was growing up). Stupid cliches lol.
