My 5 1/2 month old daughter CONSTANLY rubs her eyes when she is tired and she wakes her self up by messing with her eyes & if her hands aren't confined she will be awake ALL night. So we got her those swaddle me blankets that velcro her real tight and thats the only thing that gets her to sleep and stay asleep, but she is getting big for them and they dont come in bigger sizes.I try and swaddle her with just one of her regular blankets but she busts out of them. What can I do to get her to stop rubbing her eyes & waking herself up???

What can I do next?

you should bring her in for a doctors vist. she might have allergies or even scratched her cornea which is really painful and can cause damage. error on the side of caution

my daughter is the same. 9 1/2 months, we still swaddle her. kiddopatomas (sp) makes large ones, baby is 23 lbs they still fit and shes in a medium. allergies would have her rubbing all day and results in swelling/ hives.

You can assume allergies BUT always get the appropriate eye tests. Dryness and itching can be caused by other things other than allergies.

Why don't you get just a regular blanket and attach some velcro to it. Make your own swaddler blanket. I would also ask the ped. if there may be something else going on, she may have a clogged tear duct or something.

Good luck.

My baby had the same problem for several months. To solve this, I found a thin, fairly stretchy blanket that was very long and about as wide as my baby was tall. I laid the blanket out on a bed or the floor every night and put my baby on one end with his arms at his side, then literally rolled him up in it. The blanket would wrap completely around him 3 times, if I remember correctly. It took a little practice to figure out how tightly to wrap it (tightly enough to keep his hands away from his face, but obviously not *too* tight), but it helped us a lot. If you can't find a blanket like this, sometimes we also just laid a couple of regular blankets side-by-side and rolled him up in them as if they were connected, and that usually worked fairly well too. Hope this helps, good luck!
