I am trying to return to the work force after staying at home with my now two year old daughter. Big mistake that was. I am older, and my work skills are not up to date. So I am finding that jobs are just not calling me I have plenty of experience house cleaning, cooking, dietician for the elderly homes, nurses aid, kennel help, stall help, but any job would be helpful. If I could relocate I would go anywhere to work just need to provide for my kids could anyone help me. I checked signal parent help groups in my area all they do is recomend schools for me. I am happy to go to school, but I have to provide housing for my kids first, and that requires a job. Please could anyone help thank you for listening

When my mom went back to the workforce she went through a Temp agency. They did training on the latest software and computer programs and matched her up with the best job for her.

Good luck.

A temp agency can help you out by matching your skills with open positions. Some companies only hire using temp agencies, they generally will hire for a trial period before offering a full time position. I've never worked in a hospital that didn't have positions open for nurse's aids, I would look in different hospitals, doctor offices, and nursing homes in your areas if you have experience in that field. Healthcare is booming.

Update your resume with your skills. Make SURE there are no spelling or grammar errors... Have a friend help you if needed. I assume you are a SINGLE mom?

Go to local temporary agencies and sign up. The agencies have resources to help train you in some areas as well as test you in others to see where you may be fit.

When I was in corporate marketing for a major snack food company, we got all of our admin staff and more from the temporary pool. It is a great way to get your foot in the door and see if a company is a good fit for you and they see if they like you. Win-Win

Are you on LinkedIn.com? It is a good networking site. We own our company and I get resumes all the time from people looking for work as well as get contacted by recruiters for possible opportunities for me.

Be patient, work on your skills, resume and hopefully the right job will fall into place for you soon.

Too bad you are not in TX, economy is booming here!

Please consider going to a full university. One with married student housing. You can apply for financial aid and use the money that is left over after paying for your classes and stuff to pay your rent, most are all bills paid and a small fee for cable and phone if you want them.

I also had low income housing when I was a student. The university accepted that subsidy so I only paid $43 per month rent. I also got food stamps. I got child care free through the state also.

I was able to take classes and focus on them.

After going to college I was able to work for many years in my field. I had a good income, not like some but enough to supplement hubby's income where we could have all our needs met and have some of our wants.

Going to school isn't hard. If your income is low enough it's very very easy.

Getting a degree and having a job that pays you enough to live on is important.

I will say this, if you're as desperate as you seem then get out there and apply everyday. Dress appropriately, carry yourself with confidence and not desperation and apply for any and all jobs including fast food and retail. I state that because often people feel those jobs are beneath them however when it comes to providing for your children no job is beneath you. Also, you may need to update your skills so that you are better equipped to handle and be accepted into certain jobs. Keep trying and you will find something.

You can check with your dept of employment security to see if they offer skills training. IT could help you land that job a bit sooner.

Several years ago Oregon provided job training along with financial aid. Calk your state's human resources department to see if they have such a program. In the meantime get started on your GED.

Temp agencies have been great in my experience. Whenever I needed a job I signed up with 2-4 and always had a job within a month.

Good luck in your job on Monday! I don't know of specific resources, but a lot of times churches will help out if you live in the area and ask for the help. I hope it all goes well!!!
