WIC Question

The people at WIC told me, when I ask them this question, That WIC is just to help not to cover everything, if you need help paying for food you need to get foodstamps. They are not real helpful.

They won't give you anymore unless a doctor prescribes more milk in the child's diet. How much are you feeding the baby? Are you using powder or liquid? And what is his sleeping pattern?

yea you have to buy it if you run out,they only give you 10 cans a month,i remember my son went through 14 to 15 cans a month,we had to buy 4 to 5 cans extra a month

you hae to buy your own but if you really can't afford it there is a program called healthy start not sure where you are from but you probably have something similar wic can out you in contact with them, that will help you with anything they can like that. diapers whatever. plus there is the publix baby club that gives a bunch of coupos per month that really help and a lot of formula company with send free samples and coupons if you sign up for their site.

In the beginning, the checks that you recieve from the WIC department are just a jumping off point. If it's not enough food for your baby they will change your order, and issue new checks. The WIC office may require a note from your pediatrician stating the need for more formula for your infant.

I know that they will give you an emergency can of formula if you need it up to 3 times. You will need a doctor note for more. You will need a purple form that is provided from the WIC to be filled out from your doctor.
There is another place called Kimberly House. It's located in Clearwater. Wonderful place. I contacted them for my first baby when I needed the help. Now that I am in a better postion I give almost everything to them. You can also sign up online with the company of the type of formula that you use. They usually send pretty generous coupons. I used Good start (purple can) since it was a little less expensive. My baby was very premature when she was born. After I could not keep up with breastfeeding I gave her that formula. Never had any problems with it and it's one of the less expensive ones.

u only give what they give you, so make sure to uses what you ned for the baby sparingly.heres a hint go onto the website of your formula and if its good start they willsend you hundreds of coupons. usually with the whole amount and they will send u some free formula.when my son got to be 3 months he ate alot more so i usually had to buy one or two extra cans a day.

Hi there, yes you are correct, they only allow the amount of milk for that month and then you have to wait for the next month. Ask them if your concerned if the child on wic is drinking too much milk. Good Luck

I have heard from friends, that they went down and told the WIC office and got more. I think it depends on how long before your new checks come into effect. It definately doesn't hurt to ask. If you do end up having to buy some, Walmart or SAms is the cheapest.

i had to buy it. if your baby is going through that much milk, maybe you need to start him on ceral too. you can thicken the milk with the ceral in the bottle. there are nipples that will let it flow through the bottle.

You will have to buy your own. And they will tell you that you are over feeding your baby. They supply you with 31 cans, or 16 of the larger ones, depending on what kind of formula your on(i am not sure of what the powder formula is). 31 cans for 1 month, equals 1 can a day.

i remember a number of years ago the wic office in my neighborhood telling someone (i was nursing and had over-heard) that if they are constainly using more they may be able to change the amount on the check. just buy this time and ask about it next time (or if your wic office isn't far or very crowded then go or call monday)

WIC gives you an alloted amount every month, if you run out it is up to you to buy what you need.
Something that I did was the first set of WIC checks that I got I asked for powdered formula, then when I went back in the next time I got canned liquid that you add water to. I didn't use all the powder, so I had powder back up when I ran out of cans.

Thge usually have formula up at the wic department but i am not sure if they will give you more checks for cows milk. You will probably have to set another appt to go in there and request more on your check. You can also ask your pedeatrician. If you still can not get more milk just email me i will be happy to bring you some! i have two children I know how fast it goes

The coupons they give you are all they are going to give you. If you need more then you have to buy it youself. I dont know if you are breastfeeding or if he is on formula but the formula they give you will be enough unil he is about 5-8mths. If you are breastfeeding and are talking about the regular milk they give you then yes you will run out depending on how much your family drinks. You have to remember they are only providing enough milk for just you not the rest of you family.
