i had my baby via cesarean on aug 16th and promplty proceeded to lose my voice! it has been 7 days now with no end in sight! I did not have general anesthetic, just epidural (can you say imobile??) and my doc thought it might have been the A/C. i dont know and i am really tired of not being able to speak properly. does anyone have any ideas as to why this happened and how long it may be before it returns??? i am ready to talk to everyone about my experience but cant talk on the phone. poor me!

What can I do next?

I had the same problem. I think when you do the oxygen thing and all the other stuff along with the stay at the hospital, you can get a cold or laryngitis. Pregnant women are much more susceptible to that stuff. I had a rotten cough for a month after I gave birth to my 4 month old and bronchitis and laryngitis for 3 weeks after I delivered my 3 year old daughter. Drink hot tea with raw honey alot and try not to talk. It will come back.

Hi L. -

You might try Osha - this herb is a specific for the throat. Also, thyme tea with honey and lemon are also very good.

On a holistic level, losing one's voice has to do with a deep down fear that no one will is listening - no one really "hears" what you have to say.

Until your voice "returns", try writing down what you are feeling - getting the entire range of emotions out. You may be surprised how quickly your voice returns.

Most likely it is from the oxygen you were given during the c-section. I got this with my first child and it went away within two weeks.

I ended up putting a humidifier in our room at night and running it in the living room during the day. I also sucked on cough drops to soothe my throat. Oh the fun things we go through to have children:)

Hopefully, it will get better soon! If it doesn't, you might want to look into one other possibility of a pregnancy induced thyroid problem. One of the symptoms is a hoarse voice. Mine was never that, as I have been tested.

Congratulations and get plenty of rest!

I had a client who gave birth and the same thing happened to her. I would have someone contact as many Dr's as possible until one understands. This does not have any thing to do with the AC, it does have to do with giving birth. I think I remember that it is easier to deal with the sooner you get to someone.
I would also try an Osteopath and Theresa Cisler in Tucson is great. Give her a call, oops have someone do it for you!
