Why Does My 10 Year Old's Right Oblique Hurt Every Time She Takes Long Walks?

She just continues walking and eventually the pain stops. Then when she changes position while walking, the pain comes back. She doesn't get these pains when she massages her right lumbar hard prior to walking, when there was no pain. Then it begins to hurt. Eventually it goes away. When she does not walk/when there is no pain, she presses on it hard/grips it, it begins to hurt. Eventually the pain stops. After that when she walks, there is no pain.

It hurts in the circled area on the side (love handle/oblique) but not on the back.

A 'stitch in your side' is what you are describing.
Typically caused by blood flowing through the liver during unaccustomed exercise.
Eating something fatty right before strenuous exercise will help as the gallbladder will dump its bile contents, allowing more blood to flow through the liver.
As the liver becomes more accustomed to filtering the heavy blood load, the stitch goes away.

This used to happen to me when I was a kid, it is called a "stitch" in her side. I found that eating before exercise or wearing tight fitting pants made it worse. As an adult, those things as well as being out of shape made it happen. I am not sure if any of those apply to her but just slow down when it happens, it is no cause for concern.

Sounds like you may need to take her to a chiropractor cause something is out or pinched.

Good luck and God Bless!!

I would take her to an orthopedic sports Dr. Could be pinched nerve, could be the way she walks as far as her foot position, etc. CHeck the wear on her shoes... anything noticable as far as one shoe wearing differently than the other?

Of course, they will xray but since it appears to be tissue, she might have an MRI to see what is causing it.

It could possibly be an easy fix.

That has been happening to me since I was 13! I just chalk it op to being out of shape.
