Hi there Mamas,

A couple of months ago a white spot, about the size of a quarter, appeared on my 4 year old daughters cheek. Its not raised or bumpy or flakey or anything. It doesn't bother her. Its just a white circle on her cheek. I wasn't concerned about it but it has been a while now and it hasn't gone away. Has anyone had any sort of experience with this? Should I take her to the doctor or just wait for it to go away on its own? Any advice is appreciated.

Thank you!!
N.

My daughter tends to get white spots during the summer so I took her to the doctor and her doctor asked me if she ever had a accident on her face where the white spot had appeared because if so she could have injured the pigmentation and when she is darker in the summer it tends to stand out. I told her no that has never happened, the next thing was that it was just sun spots and would clear up on its own. It never bothered my daughter or anything and the doctor was right they did clear up.

its probably nothing but i would ask the doctor just in case. Do you live in a sunny area? I do and skin cancer is so well known here no one really freaks out about it. we just get it removed and go on. Not saying that's what it is but it could be a possibility.

Both my oldest and youngest son have/had gotten this. My Ped told us it was a form of eczema due to dry skin. It tends to show up in the summer. I make sure that they wear plenty of sunscreen since that seems to help. The oldest son outgrew it when he hit puberty. :0)

Hi, my daughter has gotten the white spots here and ther and matter of fact, she has one now and she is 15. I was told years ago that it was becasue of a lack of vitamins. I started giving her childrens vitamins and they went away. My daughter doesn't like very many fruits or vegetables to this day, and lately she hasn't eating very many or taking her vitamins so I believen that is why her spot came back.

If you child is a picky eater, try giving them the vitamins.

Good luck.
Good Luck.

My son has gotten "blotches,", as I like to call them, on his face since he was about 3 months old... they come and go, usually lasting for a month or so before they disappear. They seemed to start from a rash or irritation, usually if he brushed up against my husband's stubble. He would get them less and less as he got older, probably by the time he was a year and a half.

My son has a wheat intolerance, usually breaking out in bumps, and I'm not sure if it's connected. My sis in law's sons had the same issue with the blotches, but their complexion always cleared up. Is your daughter dark or fair? My husband is black and I'm white, and our son is caramel color... might make a difference.

I'm sure it will clear up. My pediatrician didn't seem to know what was going on, and she wasn't too worried about it.

Both my boys have recently sprouted some white spots as well on their faces. I happened to be at one of their Doc's appt. and asked their pediatrician what it was. He said it just a sih that they have dry skin. I have made it a point to lather them up with lotion everyday and they went away just as mysteriously as they appeared. Best of luck to you.

Hi, My daughter is also 4 months old. For the last three weeks, she has had a white spot about the size of a dime on her right cheek. She's mixed race (i'm white, her father is black) so her natural coloring is kind of sun-kissed looking. This white spot or hypo-pigmentation rather, looks like a bleached out spot on her face. I asked her pediatrician and she said it looked like a form of ecszema (sp?). She gave me an ointment, Desonide cream .05% to put on the spot twice a day. It's been two weeks and the spot doesn't look like it's going anywhere. I'm also perplexed and wondering what this is... If anyone has any other insight, I'd be interested in learning more. Thanks.

I have a white birthmark on my waist - it looks like someone spilled bleach on me. ;D (It's about the size of a 50 cent piece.) Maybe your daughter's is something similar.
